Kia filed a notice with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) detailing that their 2025 Kia K5 line may have lights that flicker, reduce visibility and increase the risk of a crash. A total of 82,821 sedans are affected. A software error within the Power-net Domain Controller (PDC) must be updated to remedy the issue. Kia says this will be free of charge, and done by a dealer or through an over-the-air (OTA) update.

China's car industry has been developing rapidly since the country joined the World Trade Organization in 2001. But that process accelerated rapidly in 2015, when the Communist Party introduced its "Made in China 2025" initiative. The 10-year plan to make the country a leader in several high-tech industries, including EVs, attracted intense criticism from abroad, and particularly the US, amid claims of forced technology transfers and theft of intellectual property – all of which the Chinese government denies.

Automotive chips traditionally were developed at mature process nodes in five- to seven-year cycles, but much has changed over the past half-decade. Mechanical systems have been replaced with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), complex infotainment, and chiplet-based systems that rely on high-performance computing to process more sensor data in real-time. Attaining automotive grade quality levels (<1 defective part per million, DPPM) over the wide range of power devices, flash memories, display drivers, and electronic control units is a daunting task. It requires substantial innovation from the design-for-test and test community.

Why do you need a SUMS? Software updates are a pivotal aspect of cybersecurity because today's cybersecurity has an expiration date. After all, the community of threat actors is always advancing it skills. A year from now, they may find new ways to attack your vehicle. Your serial vehicle might have been secure when it entered production, but it may not be in the future. This is where updates come into play. One important role is to help maintain the safety of connected vehicles.

Renault Emblème explores intelligent, credible and viable combinations, particularly in terms of resources, materials, production, use and end-of-life recovery. In this way, it achieves a 70% reduction in the carbon footprint for the production of all parts. At the same time, 50% of the materials used to build the car are recycled and virtually all the materials used are recyclable at the end of their service life. Engineers and designers worked together to find the best solutions in terms of aerodynamics and energy efficiency. The result is stunning: an elegant shooting brake, 4.80 metres long, with equal emphasis on styling, interior technology and its carbon footprint.

Subscriptions particularly came into focus as part of the transition to electric cars. If you aren’t sure whether the new drivetrain is right for you, being able to sample with fewer commitments seems sensible. However, this dream didn’t turn into a reality. Volvo killed its “Care by Volvo” subscription service in 2024, and British poster child of the new flexible revolution in electric car ownership Onto went into administration in 2023.

This owner was directed to bring their Lucid Air to a service center to receive the missing updates, and that’s when the trouble started. “Got a call today that the telematics module in the car is not communicating with the server, and they cannot repair/flash/update it even at the service center, it has to be replaced. It is also not a warranty item, it is roughly $1400,” read the post. The user then asked if anyone else had faced the same problem.
