Wireless, skin-interfaced multimodal sensing system for continuous psychophysiological monitoring—A wearable polygraph device

Accurate, continuous monitoring of psychophysiological states is central to understanding stress and autonomic dysfunction across diverse medical contexts. Current approaches such as polygraphy and polysomnography rely on cumbersome, wired sensors that limit real-world utility and burden patients, particularly vulnerable populations such as infants. Here, we introduce a wireless, skin-interfaced multimodal sensing system capable of simultaneously recording cardiac, respiratory, electrodermal, and thermal signals in a time-synchronized manner. Leveraging compact and soft designs, the technology enables unobtrusive monitoring across controlled, clinical, and naturalistic settings. Validation studies performed in parallel with gold standard systems demonstrate high fidelity in quantifying stress responses during polygraph interviews, cognitive load tasks, and cold pressor tests.

Challenges in exploring and manipulating the human skin microbiome

The skin is the exterior interface of the human body with the environment. Despite its harsh physical landscape, the skin is colonized by diverse commensal microbes. In this review, we discuss recent insights into skin microbial populations, including their composition and role in health and disease and their modulation by intrinsic and extrinsic factors, with a focus on the pathobiological basis of skin aging. We also describe the most recent tools for investigating the skin microbiota composition and microbe-skin relationships and perspectives regarding the challenges of skin microbiome manipulation.

While everyone else obsessed over formulas, Nuon started looking at the packaging itself. We interview Senior Consultant Benny Calderone to get deeper insights into the company’s origins and perspectives.

Hydra Microdermabrasion Skin Treatment System

Hydra Microdermabrasion System addresses a fundamental flaw in topical skincare: poor absorption. The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) has confirmed that traditional skin care products can only penetrate into the surface epidermis, and the absorption rates often does not reach optimal levels. This system solves this by utilizing advanced nanocrystalline nanochips (ranging from 250+nanometers to 0.1 mm) that create micro-channels in the stratum corneum, allowing active ingredients to reach the dermal layer efficiently, bypassing blood vessels and nerves for a painless experience.

5 things you probably didn’t know about Ultherapy

A non-invasive, natural-looking facelift, with no downtime or surgery required? There are no perfect treatments, but it’s fair to say that Ultherapy comes pretty close. Using micro-focused ultrasound energy, Ultherapy heats the foundational layers of the skin at specific points, boosting collagen production to remodel the structure of the skin. The production of new collagen occurs over the course of three to four months, where you’ll see a visible tightening around the eyes, chin, jawline and nasolabial folds.

Skin Tone Analysis for Representation in Educational Materials (STAR-ED) using machine learning

Images depicting dark skin tones are significantly underrepresented in the educational materials used to teach primary care physicians and dermatologists to recognize skin diseases. This could contribute to disparities in skin disease diagnosis across different racial groups. Previously, domain experts have manually assessed textbooks to estimate the diversity in skin images. Manual assessment does not scale to many educational materials and introduces human errors. To automate this process, we present the Skin Tone Analysis for Representation in EDucational materials (STAR-ED) framework, which assesses skin tone representation in medical education materials using machine learning.
