Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress and the Unfolded Protein Response in Cerebral Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury

Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress and the Unfolded Protein Response in Cerebral Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury | Neurovascular Intervention | Scoop.it

Ischemic stroke is an acute cerebrovascular disease characterized by sudden interruption of blood flow in a certain part of the brain, leading to serious disability and death. At present, treatment methods for ischemic stroke are limited to thrombolysis or thrombus removal, but the treatment window is very narrow. However, recovery of cerebral blood circulation further causes cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury (CIRI). The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) plays an important role in protein secretion, membrane protein folding, transportation, and maintenance of intracellular calcium homeostasis.

Interventional Neuroradiology | Neurovascular Intervention | Scoop.it

Interventional Neuroradiology uses minimally invasive techniques to treat vascular problems of the brain and spine. These treatment strategies often involve the use of catheters to treat problems from inside the blood vessel (endovascular). Aneurysms, acute stroke, carotid stenosis and a number of other vascular diseases of the brain and spine may be treatable using Interventional Neuroradiology techniques. We also perform nonvascular pain treatments of the spine including vertebroplasty, kyphoplasty and epidural steroid injections.

Ischemic stroke (IS), characterised by a typical acute cerebrovascular dysfunction, is among the major deadly ailments in middle-aged and aged individuals. Nonetheless, latest accessible efficient therapy choices are restricted and solely appropriate for a small variety of stroke sufferers. Urokinase and streptokinase are neuroprotective drug candidates which have been clinically utilized for the therapy of IS. Though these medicine can activate plasminogen to kind plasmin, they’ll additionally degrade coagulation components and fibrinogen. Due to this fact, they potentiate a excessive danger of bleeding when utilized in thrombolytic remedy.

A pump-free microfluidic device for fast magnetic labeling of ischemic stroke biomarkers

A pump-free microfluidic device for fast magnetic labeling of ischemic stroke biomarkers | Neurovascular Intervention | Scoop.it

This research proposes a low-cost and simple operation microfluidic chip to enhance the magnetic labeling efficiency of two ischemic stroke biomarkers: cellular fibronectin (c-Fn) and matrix metallopeptidase 9 (MMP9). This fully portable and pump-free microfluidic chip is operated based on capillary attractions without any external power source and battery. It uses an integrated cellulose sponge to absorb the samples. At the same time, a magnetic field is aligned to hold the target labeled by the magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) in the pre-concentrated chamber. By using this approach, the specific targets are labeled from the beginning of the sampling process without preliminary sample purification.

Early Equipment Assembly in Mechanical Thrombectomy for Stroke: A Cost‐Effectiveness Analysis

Early Equipment Assembly in Mechanical Thrombectomy for Stroke: A Cost‐Effectiveness Analysis | Neurovascular Intervention | Scoop.it

Mechanical thrombectomy (MT) is a cost‐effective treatment for patients with acute ischemic stroke secondary to large‐vessel occlusion with significant incremental monetary benefit gained with every minute of earlier treatment. Eliminating bottlenecks and standardizing technique improves efficiency and reduces door‐to‐puncture time in a cost‐effective manner. Practice patterns vary on when to open thrombectomy equipment, with some interventionalists practicing early equipment assembly (EEA) by opening and preparing all equipment before patient arrival. Others, in a desire to save cost, wait to open some components until angiography confirms suitability for intervention. We evaluate the cost effectiveness of EEA in MT‐eligible patients.

Turning the Tide: Microelectronics to Revolutionize Stroke Treatment | Neurovascular Intervention | Scoop.it

Ischemic stroke is the leading cause of long-term disability worldwide, affecting over 13 million people each year and costing tens of billions of dollars. Sensome, a French medtech that offers connected medical devices, has developed micrometric AI-powered impedance sensors that can identify the biological nature of the tissue they touch in real-time. Integration of this proprietary technology into a probe to guide medical devices in arteries (a guidewire) has given rise to Sensome’s first product, Clotild®, which recognizes blood clot types in ischemic strokes so clots can be treated faster to improve patients’ chances of a full recovery. The Sensome technology also helps transform the current standard of care in oncology.
