Teamwork is a constant in organizational life. You will work on teams for the majority of your career. Some of those teams will be an uplifting, engaging experience—but most will be an average or even a draining experience. Because most teams aren’t high-performing ones. Most teams fail to achieve a level of performance above the average of each individual’s capabilities. Most teams lack what Stephen Covey would call “synergy” but what organizational psychologists call “collective intelligence.”

Alright, let’s dive deep into the fascinating case of the Kawasaki Corleo, a hydrogen-powered four-legged robot, and dissect it through the lens of human-centered change and innovation. As our founder Braden Kelley would tell you, it’s not simply a matter of “yes” or “no.” Innovation is a complex beast, and we must approach it with nuance.

A great product alone isn’t enough to stay ahead in today’s market. Businesses need to find new ways to generate revenue and build stronger customer relationships. One of the best ways to do this is by offering services—either alongside or instead of physical products. Done right, service monetization creates steady income, enhances customer loyalty, and opens new growth opportunities. Yet, many companies struggle to make it work.

Ultimately, if a product is to succeed as a business it needs to prove it is a business. And the only way to do this is to generate sufficient revenues to either pay the bills, pay investors or to incentivise investors to put more money into the business on the premise that revenues will ultimately one day increase to the point where the business becomes viable.

From the harmless to the revolutionary, innovations throughout history have often been met with suspicion, fear, and sometimes outright hostility. This pattern is so persistent across cultures and time periods that it reveals something fundamental about human nature: we have a complicated relationship with the unknown. Today's breakthroughs—from artificial intelligence to genetic engineering—face similar resistance. But is this reaction justified, or is it part of a predictable cycle we've been repeating for centuries?

Neutron irradiation inside a fusion power plant might instantaneously suppress the superconducting magnets’ ability to carry current without resistance (called critical current), potentially causing a reduction in the fusion power output. Now, a series of experiments has clearly demonstrated that this instantaneous effect of neutron bombardment, known as the “beam on effect,” should not be an issue during reactor operation, thus clearing the path for projects such as the ARC fusion system being developed by MIT spinoff company Commonwealth Fusion Systems.
