The roads of the Roman Empire restructured mobility in the Mediterranean area. This animation movie reveals the diversity of Roman roads, from paved roads leading to major ancient cities, over wide camel tracks in the Egyptian desert, to steep roads in mountain passes. This animation was made possible thanks to Danmarks Frie Forskningsfond (DFF) Sapere Aude research leadership grant (0163-00060B).
Itiner-e is a database that traces the Roman roads through the Empire in the 2nd century. A fascinating work that added an impressive 300.000 km to the known network. - Video.
