En Californie, l'augmentation du nombre de véhicules zéro émission est associée à une baisse mesurable du dioxyde d'azote, un polluant aux effets bien documentés sur la santé.

L'arbre n'en finit pas de se rendre indispensable en ville. Une étude internationale menée par l'Inserm affine le lien entre sa présence en grand nombre dans les villes et une mortalité plus faible lors des fortes chaleurs. Publiée le 27 janvier dans la revue npj Urban Sustainability (1) , sur la base de données recueillies pendant près de dix ans, de 2008 à 2017, l'étude porte sur les arrondissements parisiens. L'Inserm, le Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) et la London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine confirment que les espaces verts exercent un effet protecteur face à la surmortalité liée à la chaleur en diminuant les températures dans la capitale. Ce sont les arbres les plus efficaces en la matière, plus que les pelouses par exemple.
