Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace teams with German partners Diehl Defence and MBDA Deutschland to develop the Tyrfing, an advanced Super-Sonic Strike Missile (3SM). The new missile is expected to replace the Naval Strike Missile deployed on Norwegian naval vessels beginning in 2035. Induction with the German Navy is expected to follow. The project became a Kongsberg teams with German partners Diehl and MBDA to develop 3SM Tyrfing Super-Sonic Strike Missiles for the Norwegian & German navies.

Italy is set to buy additional Eurofighter Typhoon combat aircraft, with government approval to be sought in the third quarter (Q3) of 2024. Consortium partner BAE Systems confirmed the potential sale, which Janes first reported from the IQPC International Fighter conference (IFC) in November 2023, with a senior company official saying on 14 May that Italy is looking to add to the 96 Eurofighters it has already received, of which 94 remain in service. “Italy is now looking at more core aircraft,” Mike Baulkwill, Combat Air Strategy director at BAE Systems said, adding, “There will be a parliamentary process over the summer to look at a further buy.” Baulkwill did not disclose further details, but Janes

The first re-winged Brazilian Air Force Lockheed P-3AM Orion maritime patrol aircraft (MPA) flew on 2 May, the service announced on 13 May, a major step towards improving the P-3AM fleet's readiness rate. Elements of the wing that were replaced during the rebuild include the top coverings, front and rear spars, and the upper panels of the central wing and fuselage structures. Brazilian manufacturer Akaer has delivered two additional sets of wings to the Brazilian Air Force, which are being installed in another two aircraft at the Galeão Aeronautical Material Park. The project is scheduled to conclude in October 2024, Akaer said in an announcement. Whether or not Brazil intends to upgrade the P-3AM fleet beyond the three deliveries has not been publicly disclosed. On 25 October 2018 Akaer was awarded a contract to rebuild the main wings of three Orion MPAs, the company said.

The UK is to award contracts valued at GBP1 billion (USD1.26 billion) to companies and organisations across the country and overseas for the rapid development of a sovereign hypersonic strike capability. The Ministry of Defence (MoD) made the announcement on 13 May, saying this “agile route is part of a broader drive across [the ministry] to increase the speed of defence procurement and stay ahead of our adversaries” The awards will be made across industry and academia under the Hypersonic Technologies & Capability Development Framework (HTCDF) agreement first disclosed in December 2023. “The organisations accepted onto the eight-lot framework, which is led by MoD's Team Hypersonics (UK), will now be eligible to bid for contracts; the maximum value of the framework across the next seven years is up to GBP1 billion. The award of contracts on the framework will be managed by Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S), the procurement arm of the UK MoD,” the ministry said.
