The apps will also help students learn about endangered species, discover thousands of organisms from around the globe, explore biodiversity of wild life and many more.
YouTube is a vast resource for educational content. A completely free resource this huge and varied has nearly endless potential for the classroom.

First introduced in 1994 in Japan, QR codes never quite took off in the U.S. It may speak to our impatience that whipping out a smartphone, launching a scanner app, and focusing the camera on an image of pixelated square proved too big a hassle. But perhaps people have been focusing on the wron
And while the internet offers a plethora of free content, there are times when it’s worth it to pay a little extra, Holden said. Those times could include when materials are done exceptionally well, when a resource is very unique, when an educator finds things he or she will use more than one time, or when it would cost more time to find exactly what an educator is searching for.
“As a teacher, you know there are not enough hours in the day for you to do everything you need to do,” Holden said. “Anything that can save time is worth my money.”
Stop Motion was one of the original video creation techniques. By stringing together a series of single images and displaying them quickly in order, film was born. Now on iPad, Stop Motion can be used as a technique for capturing learning as it happens, making drawings, models, science projects, or counting exercises come alive. Consider the power of creating a digital flipbook that could later be viewed as a video.
Introduction to KomaKoma KomaKoma is a FREE Stop Motion iPad App that can compile together a series of photos taken in the app and then export them to the Camera Roll as a video. With a simple user interface consisting of only a few buttons, KomaKoma is very intuitive. The app launches the camera automatically (first time app users will have to allow the Camera access). A big red record button captures each image in sequence, and a big green play button plays the images back as a video. The only other 2 editing buttons are a blue “X” to delete the last image taken, and a yellow arrow for saving the video to the app’s Gallery.
We all make mistakes when we write, and it would be nice if a computer could help us see the ones that spell checkers miss. Grammar checking is hard because language is squishy, so you can’t just write down the rules and check that they are followed. This lack of regularity is why grammar checkers have always been so poor.
I’ve spent most of my life in and around schools. First as a student, then as a teacher and lately as an innovator building tools and launching programs. As..
"Technology integration in instruction is a process that starts with setting out clearly defined objectives and ends with assessing learning outcomes against these objectives, and all along the way several tools and strategies are employed to attend to the overall performance of this process. Hence, the first question teachers need to ponder when thinking about using technology in class is not what kind of technology to use but what do they want to achieve behind using this technology? On a deeper level, they need to find answers to questions such as: Does this technology constitute a a good addition to the learning task ? Can the same learning task be performed without using technology? These and several other questions should come to the forefront when you start planning a technology-based learning activity.

Doing work that matters. All students should be able to be part of that. No longer working for the teacher’s wastebasket, students across the world are connecting and sharing like never before. They are led by teachers unafraid of the world but who escort their kids out to meet the future. While a recent poll […]
Any way we can bring in technology into the classroom to improve learning can only be a good thing. Take for instance Twitter and YouTube. Valueable lessons and strategies can be found using these sites which can only be beneficial for our students, if used wisely I must add.
I especially like the idea of tweeting as a character from history! Not only is it enjoyable, but it encourages the students to quite literally put themselves in their shoes and evaluate their decisions, trials and tribulations on a much more personal level.
Follow @theteachgeek Whenever you speak to teachers about integrating technology into learning experiences, the first question is usually, "Which apps should we be using".
