50 reasons it's time for smartphones in every classroom

50 reasons it's time for smartphones in every classroom | DIGITAL LEARNING | Scoop.it

There are many ways to use a smartphone in the classroom, but it continues to be a touchy subject.

Privacy, equity, bandwidth, lesson design, classroom management, theft, bullying, and scores of other legitimate concerns continue to cloud education’s thinking about how to meaningfully integrate technology in the learning process.

To be clear–learning can happen in the absence of technology. (...)
But increasingly we live in a world where technology is deeply embedded into everything we do. Thinking about it simply in terms of “digital literacy” puts you about 5 years behind the curve. It’s really much more than that–less about being connected, and more about being mobile".

How to get hesitant teachers to use technology

How to get hesitant teachers to use technology | DIGITAL LEARNING | Scoop.it
I am keenly aware that many of my colleagues are not, for various reasons, gung ho about educational technology. And it’s interesting. Quite often, the teachers who are hesitant to adopt new technology are great — in fact, amazing — educators. They are frequently veterans and usually leaders in their academic field and within their institutions.

In my role as tech advocate, I habitually find myself trying to coax these established educators to use new tools and incorporate new methodologies. Here are some ways I have found to be successful in this endeavor.

Project-Based Learning in the EFL Classroom

Project-Based Learning in the EFL Classroom | DIGITAL LEARNING | Scoop.it
Introducing an irresistible project at the beginning of a unit can give students a clear and meaningful reason for learning. We have all heard of Project-Based Learning (PBL), and some of us may have even try to build PBL curriculum. Through projects, students master skills—critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration—that are hard to teach in traditional classrooms.

How To Teach Children That Failure Is The Secret To Success - NPR

How To Teach Children That Failure Is The Secret To Success - NPR | DIGITAL LEARNING | Scoop.it
Is failure a positive opportunity to learn and grow, or is it a negative experience that hinders success? How parents answer that question has a big influence on how much children think they can improve their intelligence through hard work, a study says.

"Parents are a really critical force in child development when you think about how motivation and mindsets develop," says Kyla Haimovitz, a professor of psychology at Stanford University. She coauthored the study, published in Psychological Science with colleague Carol Dweck, who pioneered research on mindsets. "Parents have this powerful effect really early on and throughout childhood to send messages about what is failure, how to respond to it."

Although there's been a lot of research on how these forces play out, relatively little looks at what parents can do to motivate their kids in school, Haimovitz says. This study begins filling that gap.

How to Recover Deleted Notes on iPhone & iPad - OSXDaily

How to Recover Deleted Notes on iPhone & iPad - OSXDaily | DIGITAL LEARNING | Scoop.it

"The Notes app in iOS is widely used by many users for many purposes, whether for keeping a shopping list, password locked personal notes and data, a diary, sketches and drawings, checklists, or whatever else you may want to keep handy on an iPhone or iPad. Because much of the Notes data is personal, if you accidentally delete a note or two it can be a stressful experience and you’d understandably like to recover from inadvertently removing an important note.

Not to worry though, the latest versions of the Notes app allow for an undelete process, allowing users to restore deleted notes to their iOS device, assuming they act within a reasonable time frame."

A Complete Guide to Evernote

A Complete Guide to Evernote | DIGITAL LEARNING | Scoop.it
If you've never heard me talk about Evernote, we probably haven't talked much. Evernote is my all time favorite tool for every aspect of my life. I use it for my personal life, this blog, my job, my freelance clients and everything in between. The problem with Evernote is that it can do SO much, it's very easy to get overwhelmed when starting out. My goal is to help you understand Evernote so that you'll use it and love it.

I've been using Evernote for close to 3 years now. It's one of the few programs I always have open on my computer. It's also the app I use most on my phone. I used to be a huge fan of notebooks (I still am), Evernote just lets me save those notes, search them and tag them. If you're a student, business owner, blogger, mom or planning any kind of event, Evernote will be useful to you.

This is an article that provides some suggestions for those teachers that want to make the English learning as contextualized as possible with the environment and daily life of students. This is practicing English language through whatsapp. It teaches us that this application instead of being a distraction for students can be part of the class in a positive way. Using it, students can practice the four skills: writing and reading texts and listening and speaking audios. Moreover, teachers can use it as a tool to provide feedback on students performance.
