It may feel as though generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) has leapt from ChatGPT to every nook and cranny of our digital lives: the search results we see from Google, the productivity tools we use from Microsoft, and of course, customer-support chatbots all over the Web. As fascinating as GenAI is, though, this new type of AI that has driven the most excitement (and anxiety) in recent years is still very much in its infancy. Via Edumorfosis, LGA

"Open AI stunned the world in November 2022 when it released ChatGPT, its web-based interface to the GPT-3.5 model. Suddenly, a generative AI model trained on massive amounts of internet content was accessible to many people and organizations across the globe. Since then, we've all experimented with use cases and entertained and frightened one another with stories about the results of creative queries, sinister or silly responses, and some powerful ways to use generative AI to be more productive and more innovative."

A moral panic is “a widespread fear that a person, group, or thing is a threat to society's values, interests, or well-being.” It’s a term that’s sporadically used to highlight (and, some argue, minimize) strong social reactions, especially those that truly sweep across the cultural landscape, cross political boundaries, and result in new government policies and regulations. Some famous moral panics of the 20th century include the mass revolts in the 1950’s against rock and roll music and comic books, or in the 1990’s against rap music. Via John Evans
