For VR advocates like Maya Georgieva, though, the technology is rapidly changing the way we see and experience the world. Georgieva, the co-founder of Digital Bodies—a group that researches and consults on VR for education—says that while virtual reality is still seen as supplemental in K–12 classrooms, that thinking is shifting as the volume of content increases and teachers and students feel the excitement around it.

Today, VR is something consumers dive into for a short time. The experience is not yet comfortable enough for hours of time – at least not for most people. Facebook is trying to create an environment for extended time in VR, but it’s ahead of the hardware that will entice people to be willing to do so. The concern for content creators is that we know people are willing to spend hours on their 2D PC, but they need enough people willing to spend hours in VR

Before the end of this year, people will be able to play the popular open-world action game The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim in virtual reality. They will also be able to get their hands on virtual-reality versions of the first-person shooter game Doom, the post-apocalyptic game Fallout, and independent titles like Sisters, a horror game that explores virtual reality in an episodic format.
This flood of video game titles is an important marker for virtual reality. Even as the hype over the technology has outrun its actual adoption, the video gaming industry has continued to pour money and resources into embracing virtual reality, cementing its development and advancement — at least in the near term.

"Google is bringing its room-sensing augmented reality tech to the classroom.
"Two years after bringing VR field trips into schools with its Expeditions program, the company is expanding the project to include a new type of lesson: augmented reality.
"The augmented-reality lessons, which are powered by Google's Project Tango technology, will work much the same way as their VR counterparts. Except, instead of taking students on VR "field trips" teachers will be able to place 3D objects around their classrooms for students to explore."
Virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) have never been more accessible for teachers and students. Of course, the technology isn’t perfect yet, and the content offerings can be hit or miss. But, considering how many students carry smartphones, and with cardboard-style VR viewers starting at about $15, it’s easier than ever to give kids immersive VR and AR experiences in class.

When you think of higher education, chances are that virtual reality is not something that immediately comes to mind. In recent years, online learning has changed the face of education by becoming a supplement to traditional methods, allowing people to learn at a distance, on their own time and at their own pace. It has…

"We are now approximately one-sixth of the way through the 21st century, and thousands of movies have already been released. Which means that it’s high time for the sorting – and the fighting – to start. As the chief film critics of The Times, we decided to rank, with some help from cinema savants on Facebook, the top 25 movies that are destined to be the classics of the future. While we’re sure almost everyone will agree with our choices, we’re equally sure that those of you who don’t will let us know." Jim Lerman's insight: I included this article just because it's a good list and I like movies.
