Please help. I’ve read from FileMaker Pro 10, but couldn’t find specifics on filling and deleting check boxes in multiple records, especially if limited to a found set.
Regarding finding empty checkboxes, Omit finds all empty checkboxes in the database, but how can I find empty checkboxes limited to a found set.
I know how to use Replace Field Contents, but not with Checkbox fields.
Does this require a Formula or a Calculation? If so, what does the formula look like?
I don't seem to be able to share files over the internet. I'm using File Maker Pro 12.
Originally I had got a file shared and a colleage was entering data using the internet, now I can only get the Instant Web Publishing list of files page on a computer that is accessing the internet through the same interet connection as my host computer.
On these computers the URL is in the format: http://192.xxx4/fmi/iwp/res/iwp_home.html Am I right in thinking this must be being shared through Network Setting and not Instanst Web settings?
I think I have sharing Instant Web Sharing set up correctly (see attached jpeg) and it was working originally. I'm not aware of changing any of the settings. I have changed the layouts on the database I am sharing, but I don't seem to be able to share any files.
I'm a new user, so any help would be very much appreciated.
I created a report with a title page in the title header section and set it to not print page 1 for that page. This works out fine in the PDF, i.e. no page number appears on the cover page. My problem is that my boss now wants me to add a 2nd preliminary page before the body of the report. I know that a title header can only appear once, so how do I make a second page that will also appear without a footer page number so that the data pages themselves can start with page 1?
Have basically the same set of related files for my Address book, Invoice, Invoice inventory & a few other files that I started with years ago. I never set a password for either Filemaker itself or these files.
After I converted to FM Pro 11 - now it wants a password to open my converted files or I have to open them with Guest Access only.
Which means it won't allow me to delete or edit fields or records.
HELP! There is no original password so I can't change or assign a new one.
FMP 12 comes with a Contacts Example database which has a web viewer showing the address on a google maps display. It's neat, clean and works great in the example database. I'd like to incorporate it into mine but I can't figure it out. I've tried using the web viewer to make my own google maps but it's like viewing the google page, cluttered and busy. Not just a Map like in the contacts DB. Contacts seems to have a custom "GetMap" function which asks for something called "Map1"...both of these things are beyond me at this point. Does anyone know how to add this functionality to one's own database?
Ok, we know we need to save regular back ups during development. FileMaker saves the changes you make automatically, so if you make design changes that you later decide to discard and you want to revert back to an older version, you can't do it unless you have made and kept periodic copies of your file during the development process. Not only should you save a copy frequently, but you should give each back up a new file name each time so your new copy doesn't overwrite any existing back ups. This is so you can refer back to more than just the last save should you need to do so.
But that requires disciplining yourself to make copies on a regular interval and with a consistent naming convention to make it easy to tell the age of each saved copy. And there's the rub. I'm just as lazy as the next guy and when you add to that the state of intense concentration that I routinely enter during development and I'm just not very likely to make those backups.
If I had a nickel for every time I made changes to my database, had a different idea and found myself rebuilding parts of my database to match an earlier version just because I didn't make those copies...
I want to get the text file path from a .jpg picture located on a network hard drive. A Container contains the .jpg file as reference. I need this filepath to be adjustable if the Database file is relocated or the hard drive path changes.
I work in a small print shop where we have been using a FileMaker Pro database that was created years ago (in a really old version) to track our jobs in case we lost our paper Work Order(s). We keep importing it into newer software as we update. The problem with this is that we have software that could do so much more than we are currently using. We'd like to harness some of that power now and improve our database and get a little more efficient. Since I had nothing to do with the creation of the database years ago, and am only just now learning how to modify what we have, I'm not sure if it's better to start over with a new database, or if there's a way to effectively alter what we have.
Have you ever wanted to see a list of all of the layouts in your entire solution?
Want to find all of the scripts that do import script steps and print them out?
Want to find every button on a layout that's calling a particular script, and list all of the layouts?
Want to see every tooltip calculation across all your files?
Want to know every place a Global Variable is used in your solution?
These are just a few examples of the sorts of things possible in BaseElements.
Everything in your entire solution is imported, everything is cross referenced, and it's all open and accessible for you to search, list, sort, display and relate to every other object.
If you have a question about your solution you need answered, BaseElements can answer it.
Look at some of the benefits to automating your invoice process by using Filemaker.
Often companies start generating quotes and invoices in Excel spreadsheets. They then become frustrated as they cannot easily track the invoice against the quote.
A well designed database can eliminate these and provide other benefits such as the ones listed below.
I have a database that when opened yesterday stated that it was damaged and that I needed to run recovery. I ran it, then I tried to open the file and got this error "The access priveleges in this file have been damaged or possibly tampered with" It does not let me open the file. Is there any way I can get the data out?
I have a backup from 2 months ago, but I would like to be able to get the data out of the current file somehow. Does anyone know of a way to do this or a third party software that would help. I am using it on PC platform.
I have Filemaker Pro 12 Advance and a MacBook Pro running Parallels (Windows 7). I created a runtime version for PC (Windows 7 running) and was able to create. Tried to create Mac version and it gave me error about the runtimes files counldn't be found. Reinstalled FileMaker and then was able to create runtime for MAC, but now I can't create runtime for PC. Is there a way to select which runtime I'm creating (Windows/MAC) ? Or is there a way to create both runtimes on the same machine? I did not know if this is normal behavior for FileMaker or not.
We have been using FMP 7 and Server 7 for the past several years. We are upgrading to FMP 12 and Server 12. With FMP 7 I was able to create a desktop shortcut to the database on the server as follows:
fmp7://10.168.1.101/customers.fp7
I've tried a myriad of different combinations for FMP 12... all with no luck. Can anyone tell me what it should be for FMP 12?
I'm using FileMaker Pro 12. I want to integrate a map of the "home address" into the layout. I previously had one in there that when you entered the new contact's address in the Home Address fields it automatically showed you a map in the layout. You could also zoom in and out on the map. How do I get that back? I attached a screen shot of what I get right now. Thanks for the help!
I've been reading the threads and I'm completely confused. Many of the answers are far beyond my understanding of databases (filemaker 12).
I'm a missionary church planter and I'm trying to track weekly attendance (among other things).
I have a database with all the basic information (Name, Phone, Address, some other information in regards to whether the person is married, has kids, is a visitor etc.)
Every week attendees write their name in a book and I manually keep track of who's come and who hasn't. I'd like the automate this with the database. Weekly I'd like a report with the following info.:
- Everyone at the church service: - People who have come for the first time: - People who have come for the second time: - People who have come for the third time: - People who missed two weeks: - People who missed four weeks:
My vocabulary in Database speak is limited, I'm trying to learn.
This should repair your file, but there are no guarantees. The best defense against file corruption is to make and keep frequent sequential back ups. The key is to not keep just one backup (it might be corrupt too), but to keep an entire series of backups. This allows you to check each backup in turn until you find a copy that is not damaged. You can then save a clone of this copy and import all data from a recovered copy of your file into this clone. We have a backup scheme in place for our database files that backs them up every 1-2 hours with each hourly backup retained for the day, makes a verified back up every night with each nightly backup retained for the month, and we then manually pull one back up copy each month into an "archive" directory for perpetual storage. We also copy some of these backups into other physical locations so that damage/destruction of the site where the server is located will not destroy all copies of our data.

In this video, Martha Zink shows the way a user can interact with a Container Field in FileMaker 12. The container fields, in this example, are demonstrated as a Help System for an Expense Report database.
Imagine being able to follow along with a help video, which potentially avoids the need for heavy written documentation.
Martha will show developers the proper setting to allow users to interact with PDFs, movies, etc.
