SEGUNDO CONGRESO DE ACCESIBILIDAD DIGITAL 2025 La accesibilidad digital no solo elimina barreras, sino que también fomenta la inclusión y la equidad en la educación. Cuando las plataformas, recursos y herramientas digitales son diseñados teniendo en cuenta la diversidad funcional, se garantiza que todos los estudiantes puedan aprender, interactuar y contribuir en igualdad de condiciones. El Congreso de Accesibilidad Digital 2025 reunirá a expertos, educadores, diseñadores de contenido, personal informático, profesores y estudiantes en un esfuerzo conjunto por fomentar la inclusión digital de las personas con impedimentos o diversidad funcional. Este evento, organizado por el Comité de Accesibilidad Digital de la Universidad de Puerto Rico en colaboración con la Internet Society, capítulo de Puerto Rico, tiene como objetivo principal generar conciencia, compartir conocimientos y promover mejores prácticas en la creación de entornos digitales accesibles. Information Literacy is Critical in the Digital AI Age
Information literacy has become essential in today’s digital age, particularly with the rise of artificial intelligence (AI), which has enabled the spread of misinformation on an unprecedented scale. Recent events, such as pro-Palestinian protests at U.S. universities, have served as fertile ground for the dissemination of false information, including misattributed chants and debunked claims about the presence of extremist groups.
AI has intensified the complexity of the information landscape by quickly generating and amplifying misleading narratives, deepfakes, and artificially created visual content. This situation has raised concerns among global leaders, who see misinformation as a significant emerging challenge. The World Economic Forum’s Global Risks Report highlights misinformation and the manipulation of information as critical threats today.
To address these challenges, it is vital for students to develop strong information literacy skills. This includes learning to question sources, identify false information, and critically consume news and content on social media. Information literacy education should be integrated into curricula from an early age, as demonstrated in Finland, where media literacy has been part of the national curriculum starting in preschool.
Emerging technological tools are also empowering users to combat online misinformation, enabling more effective fact-checking and the identification of misleading content. The combination of information literacy education and the use of these tools is essential for navigating today’s complex digital environment.
In an era where AI amplifies misinformation, information literacy becomes a critical skill for students, equipping them to discern the truth and engage meaningfully in the digital society.

As teachers today we are told that we must teach our students and help them construct "enduring understanding", providing them with the ability to transfer knowledge from one subject area to another subject area. We are also told that we should personalize education, requiring us to know the strengths and weaknesses and incorporate this into our lessons. And let's not forget that we must also assess our students. How can we make our assessments help students with content retention? This post focuses on this question, and provides five suggestions on ways to do this.
The first three suggestions are:
These types of tests may take more time to create but they have the ability to be written so that students have to do more than memorize information. There is more information on this in the post.
The next suggestion is:
This requires that students demonstrate mastery of the subject. This will require the student to create (a 21st century goal) and additional information is in the post, including a discussion of what this might look like.
The final suggestion is:
This section discusses what we may do to help out student build their skillsets through feedback and opportunities to construct accurate information.
As you read this post you may begin to consider alternative ways to assess your students that help them with content retention.
