Les professionnels français du domaine naval militaire le savent : les traductions du Français vers l'Anglais de textes techniques sont, parfois, loin d'être évidentes. Et, jusqu'ici, il n'existait pas vraiment d'outil très spécifique pour aider à la traduction de tels textes. Ce problème est désormais solutionné puisque Steve Dyson, traducteur et rédacteur technique pour l'industrie française de la défense navale depuis plus de 15 ans, vient d'éditer un glossaire français-anglais de la défense navale. « Cet ouvrage s'adresse aux traducteurs avertis et aux spécialistes de la défense navale. Il est le fruit de la traduction/adaptation de français en anglais de milliers de pages de journalisme technique concernant la défense navale et des sujets connexes », explique Steve Dyson.
Il s'agit d'un outil très spécifique en ce qui concerne le sujet (la défense navale), la « matière première » (des articles de journalisme technique destinés à promouvoir des produits, services et entreprises français) et l'approche traductologique que l'auteur désigne par « traduction par émulation »....

El Instituto de Censores Jurados de Cuentas de España (ICJCE) ha publicado una traducción en español del libro de la International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) sobre las Normas Internacionales de Auditoría y de Control de Calidad.

Carolin Gehrmann es una de las 25 personas que tiene contratadas la cadena de televisión pública alemana (ARD) para traducir en subtítulos los programas que emite diariamente. Esta cadena lleva más de 25 años aplicando políticas de igualdad en los medios de comunicación públicos que pasan, entre otras medidas, por traducir a la comunidad sorda alemana el mayor número de emisiones que realizan. Sólo el año pasado consiguieron traducir 48.000 minutos para la Primera, 17.600 para la Segunda y 43.200 para la Tercera. Y para 2013, "el Gobierno se ha comprometido a que todos los programas de la televisión pública alemana se emitan con subtítulos".

Session 1 – Theories
The comparatively recent discipline of Translation Studies brings together scholars’ ideas on the topic in the form of theoretical models, where translating takes on different features according to genre. Translating texts with a dominant aesthetic function requires knowledge of cultural history, of literature and specific approaches; translating texts with a dominant pragmatic function requires encyclopedic knowledge and up-date language skills. Without considering text types, translation problems cannot be explored and translation quality cannot be assessed. Both in literary and non-literary translation there are complex issues at a theoretical level and the notion of function needs to be discussed by taking into account communicative and pragmatic problems. In particular, investigating equivalence requires different linguistic approaches depending on whether a lexical, textual or more generally communicative approach is followed.
Session 2 – Approaches
Translation Studies cover different approaches, ranging from imitation to rewriting. Translators omit, add, and replace parts of text to make up for losses. In translating from one language/culture to another, translators often have to rely heavily their skills and creativity, so that a holist approach to translating needs to be used. The strategies chosen by the translators have advantages and disadvantages in relation to the text specificity, and the domesticating or foreignizing objectives to be achieved. The learning of such strategies entails the awareness of style and the enhancement of the critical skills of those who approach texts.
