Tim Tebow scores his own dictionary entry - Opinion | Metaglossia: The Translation World | Scoop.it

Yes, Florida's own Tim Tebow has added a word -- " Tebowing" -- to the national lexicon. According to the Global Language Monitor website, which USA Today says is the online equivalent of Webster's, " 'Tebowing' is the act of kneeling in prayer during an athletic contest."

The former University of Florida star, the son of Christian missionaries, may be known as much for his open professions of religious faith as for his brilliant athletic achievements. Many professional athletes are openly religious, but Tebow's quiet fervor -- combined with his near-miraculous exploits on the field -- have put him in a new category of pop-culture fame.

"Tebowing" became an instant sensation back in October, when Tebow struck a prayerful pose on the sideline after he had led the Denver Broncos to an overtime victory over the Miami Dolphins. Within hours, it seemed, he had inspired legions of imitators on the Internet -- all of them dropping to one knee and resting their foreheads on their fists, Tebow-style.
