Sonic Frontiers announces it supported voice and subtitled languages | Metaglossia: The Translation World | Scoop.it

Sonic Frontiers has just the one teaser trailer, but it’s gotten fans around the world talking. Did you know that disembodied voice calling out to Sonic is Amy Rose? Or that the game is being described as “open zone”?

Now a few more details have made themselves known, though they’re rooted more in the game’s localization and accessibility. As has become standard for the series, quite a few languages will be supported via both voiced dubs and included subtitles.

Good news! The teams here have already been hard at work in localizing Sonic Frontiers to bring it to new audiences. Full list of language support below: pic.twitter.com/AS9h6oyDhh

Sonic Frontiers voiced and subtitled languages

  • English
  • French
  • German
  • Italian
  • Japanese
  • Spanish

Sonic Frontiers subtitled languages

  • Brazilian Portuguese
  • Korean
  • Polish
  • Russian
  • Simplified Chinese
  • Traditional Chinese

As a quick note, the game will only support Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese subtitles on Xbox and PC platforms.

The announcement comes right on the heels of Brazilian fans rallying to get their language into the series for the first time, and goes to show the blue blur’s global popularity. You owe it to yourself to give German Robotnik a listen at least once, or to keep on appreciating the longevity (since 1998!) of Sonic’s Japanese voice actor Jun’ichi Kanemaru.

Sonic Frontiers is planned for release sometime in 2022, for Switch as well as currently supported Xbox and Playstation consoles, and PC.
