Minister for Employment and Learning, Dr Stephen Farry, today launched a new NVQ Level 6 course in British or Irish Sign Language. | Metaglossia: The Translation World | Scoop.it

The course which is to be offered through the Belfast Metropolitan College, has10 British Sign Language and three Irish Sign Language students currently undertaking a pilot course in NVQ Level 6 Sign Language. The course which is funded by the Department for Employment and Learning will offer the new course to potential sign language interpreters in future years.

Speaking at the launch the Minister said: “My Department, in partnership with Belfast Metropolitan College and Action on Hearing Loss, has developed this course to provide NVQ Level 6 training in British and Irish Sign Language and it is my hope that, as this course has not previously been available in Northern Ireland, many more students avail of the opportunity to study British or Irish Sign Language to the highest possible level.”
