In my mind, there are three important elements of a photograph. Lighting, Composition and Moment. Every picture that I love has these elements, in varying amounts. A great picture may have strength in all three areas, or it may be, for example, such an emotional moment that it overpowers poor composition or light.
There are loads of photography communities out there but some stand out more than others. Amongst the biggest with the deepest conversations are 500px and Flickr. These communities foster conversations much more than many of the others–and it works in many ways. Yes, you get some back and forth banter and constructive critique, but these are also where the trolls dwell–waiting patiently to take your self-esteem.

One of the advantages of being a street photographer is that you certainly don’t need to get up before dawn to catch the good light. Harsh sunlight, nighttime and rainy days are only a few of the most desired situations on the streets. Getting up too early, before people are out and about, may actually be counter-productive in your search for the decisive moment.
Camera straps are among the first additional accessories photographers consider for their camera, especially if it is a mirrorless camera. They may want to add some extra vintage flavour to the camera’s design with a nice handmade leather strap, or maybe they’re simply after something more robust. Unfortunately, neck straps that come with your camera are usually very simple. Some even have the brand name of the company splattered in bold lettering at least twice along the belt, which isn’t great for those who want to be more discreet.
