Mucosal Immunology - TNF superfamily member TL1A elicits type 2 innate lymphoid cells at mucosal barriers

Mucosal Immunology - TNF superfamily member TL1A elicits type 2 innate lymphoid cells at mucosal barriers | Mucosal Immunity | Scoop.it

OPEN

Gilbert C FAURE's insight:

Immune responses at mucosal barriers are regulated by innate type 2 lymphoid cells (ILC2s) that elaborate effector cytokines interleukins 5 and 13 (IL5 and IL13). IL25 and IL33 are key cytokines that support ILC2s; however, mice deficient in these pathways retain some functional ILC2s. Analysis of human and murine cells revealed that ILC2s highly express tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-receptor superfamily member DR3 (TNFRSF25).

Access : The development and function of mucosal lymphoid tissues: a balancing act with micro-organisms : Mucosal Immunology

Mucosal Immunology is the official publication of the Society of Mucosal Immunology (SMI). It aims to provide a forum for both basic and clinical scientists to discuss all aspects of immunity and inflammation involving mucosal tissues. The journal reflects the interests of scientists studying gastrointestinal, pulmonary, nasopharyngeal, oral, ocular, and genitourinary immunology through the publication of original research articles, scholarly reviews, and timely commentaries, editorials and letters.
Gilbert C FAURE's insight:

Here they discuss the mechanisms, mostly based on mouse studies, that control the development of mucosal lymphoid organs and how the various lymphoid tissues cooperate to maintain the integrity of the mucosal barrier.

SnapShot: Resident Memory T Cells

Gilbert C FAURE's insight:

Resident memory T cells (TRM) comprise a subset of nonrecirculating memory T cells that remain positioned at common portals of reinfection. These include barrier tissues such as the mucosae and skin. TRMorchestrate the initial response to pathogens re-encountered at these locales, thereby accelerating protective immune responses.

Host defense and immunity to Mycobacterium tuberculosis : Mucosal Immunology

Pulmonary tuberculosis, caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection remains an important cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, currently accounting for over 8 million new infections and approximately 1.5 million deaths annually. Furthermore, there is a significant spread of drug-resistant organisms, and no broadly effective vaccine strategies are presently available. The continuing global epidemic of tuberculosis emphasizes the urgent need to improve our knowledge of host defense mechanisms and to develop effective strategies for the prevention and treatment of this devastating disease.

Gilbert C FAURE's insight:

This Web Focus is a compilation of the most pertinent original research, commentaries, and review articles published in Mucosal Immunology over the past three years addressing the immunology of tuberculosis and efforts to develop novel vaccines. We hope that the articles will inspire novel thinking about this infection of world-wide significance.
