A suggestion for a new Course Format to be included in Moodle 3.3 has been submitted to the Moodle Tracker by none other than Martin Dougiamas. The “Rope Team” Course Format, which seems to have been developed in a hackathon during the Shaping the Future Conference 2017, held this past January in a ski lodge in Alberta, not only piqued the “Moodler’s” interest, but apparently his sense of urgency.
The “Rope Team” course format proposes a team-based structure for content delivery and monitoring. A 16-slide presentation accompanies the proposal. Other possible names for the format include Studygroup or Docendo (from the Latin proverb Docendo Discimus, or “by teaching, we learn.”)
When you click on a link in Moodle, are some of the pages taking longer than they should to finish loading? Frustrating, isn’t it? And you’re not alone. The speed at which pages load is called the Page Load Time (PLT) and is measured in seconds. There are various extensions you can use to measure this, such as the ‘Page load time’ extension in Chrome. I expect my Moodle pages to load in less than two seconds, and not more than three seconds, and I think this is a reasonable expectation. So how do your PLTs compare, and do you know what to do about it if they are not ‘up to speed’?

The upcoming update to Moodle, version 3.3, may offer an interesting new welcome page, courtesy of the Moodle Users Association. Voted by members of the Moodle Users Association as the project of choice for the 2016-I Development Cycle, “My Course Overview” aims to offer timely information about active courses as soon as students log into Moodle.
The project has been in steady development since July 30th of last year, and finally we can test-drive it on Moodle’s quality control site, at prototype.moodle.net. Online forums, in all their different iterations, are a hotbed of activity across the internet. From social media and comments sections, to image boards, to more specialized and exclusive venues, forums carry the weight of our minds. The simplicity of use makes it also a perfect target for not so constructive participation, or downright antisocial behavior.
