pagerjs - The Single Page Application Framework for KnockoutJS

pagerjs - The Single Page Application Framework for KnockoutJS | JavaScript for Line of Business Applications | Scoop.it

pager.js is a JavaScript library based on KnockoutJS and jQuery that provides the possibility of creating single page applications in a declarative fashion - nesting subpages inside subpages where each subpage can be developed standalone but still communicate between each other.

This makes it easier to design very large scale single page web sites.

JavaScript Code Complexity Visualization don't code today what you can't debug tomorrow

JavaScript Code Complexity Visualization don't code today what you can't debug tomorrow | JavaScript for Line of Business Applications | Scoop.it

I have written about the concept and the tool for complexity analysis of JavaScript code before. In addition to that complexity monitoring strategy, apparently it is also useful to produce the so-called complexity report. Fortunately, now we a visualization tool which allows us to prepare such a report.

There are some ready-to-enjoy exemplary Plato reports, such as the one for jQuery. The summary page, as shown below, is useful to give a quick comparison of the different source files, in terms of code complexity, lines of code (LOC), etc.

Jan Hesse's insight:

Who says code analysis can’t be fun?

A real ROCA using Bootstrap, jQuery, Thymeleaf, Spring HATEOAS and Spring MVC

A real ROCA using Bootstrap, jQuery, Thymeleaf, Spring HATEOAS and Spring MVC | JavaScript for Line of Business Applications | Scoop.it

So what do you do if you don’t want to build a single page application? While working at a customer I came across ROCA (Resource-oriented Client Architecture) which is a set of rules for a web application architecture. It’s a short list, so before I repeat them here, please read them there.

Ready?

So now you know the rules, but that doesn’t mean you can instantly imagine how such an application would look like. At least I couldn’t. I learned that there are two important aspects:

Build a Location-Based Mobile App With HTML5 and Javascript

Build a Location-Based Mobile App With HTML5 and Javascript | JavaScript for Line of Business Applications | Scoop.it

You don’t need separate platform-specific technologies to develop powerful, useful apps. You’d be surprised with what you can build with HTML5 and popular JavaScript libraries. This article is the first of a series in which I’ll develop a mobile app purely through HTML5 and JavaScript frameworks. The app will be called “Where I parked my car”, and we’ll build it with jQuery Mobile and Cordova (also known as PhoneGap).

Jan Hesse's insight:

It's really great to see how WebApps can also be done with nothing more than jQueryMobile. The rest is Vanilla JS - MVC not necessary.

Extending JavaScript IntelliSense

Extending JavaScript IntelliSense | JavaScript for Line of Business Applications | Scoop.it

The JavaScript IntelliSense extensibility feature enables you to customize IntelliSense results in the JavaScript editor for third-party libraries. This can improve the experience of developers who use these libraries.

The JavaScript language service provides IntelliSense features for third-party JavaScript libraries that are added to a project. For most libraries, statement completion is provided automatically by the language service.

Jan Hesse's insight:

Are you still googling or already autocompleting?

Partial Application in JavaScript

Unless you've used another functional programming language such as ML or Haskell, concepts such as partial application and currying in JavaScript may be foreign to you. That being said, once you understand these concepts, you can put them to use in your own code.

Building Huuuuuge Apps with AngularJS

The AngularJS documentation is great for getting started and for looking up specific API calls. However, it doesn't really tell you how to organize and manage your app as it grows to tens or hundreds of thousands of lines of code. I've collected here some of my observations and best practices for how to manage your sprawling application. First we'll take a look at organization, then move on to some tips on improving performance, and conclude with a brief summary on tools, servers, and build processes. While this post will focus on big apps in particular, there's a great video on YouTube from the December 2012 AngularJS meetup on best practices that's also worth checking out.

Important Considerations When Building Single Page Web Apps

Important Considerations When Building Single Page Web Apps | JavaScript for Line of Business Applications | Scoop.it

Technically, most web pages already are SPAs; it’s the complexity of a page that differentiates a web page from a web app. In my opinion, a page becomes an app when you incorporate workflows, CRUD operations, and state management around certain tasks. You’re working with a SPA when each of these tasks take place on the same page (using AJAX for client/server communication, of course).

Let’s start with this common understanding, and dive into some of the more important things that should be considered when building SPAs.

Iterative development in AngularJS - from hack to component

I have rows in a database that look something like [id, thisUser, didSomething, toThisEntity, atThisTime, andGotThisResult]. It's pretty common pattern in relational db's for tracking actions in a web app. I needed view that included historical accounts of what entities were seen/touched by a user (for administrative transparency). I accomplished a simple, intuitive grid with filtering using AngularJS.
