Here Is An Easy Way to Annotate Videos

Here Is An Easy Way to Annotate Videos | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

Reclipped is an excellent educational tool to use to annotate and create video snippets. It allows you to collect relevant parts from videos, add your comments and notes to them and then share them with others. You can trim videos and choose specific timestamps for the start and end of your snippet. Reclipped has recently added a great feature called ’Summary Note’. A summary note is ‘a special snippet for quick note-taking on videos. It is like a Scribble Pad, where you can write your thoughts and ideas in the form of bullet points, while watching the video. To help you revisit them quickly, ReClipped automatically adds the timestamps to your bullets.’.’

Web Tools to Annotate Online Content

Web Tools to Annotate Online Content | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

Annotating is a great way to capture and record your thoughts as you interact with a reading material which can be a text document, a web page, a PDF, an image or even a video. It offers you a deeper level of engagement with text and is one of the efficient strategies for close and critical reading.  Annotating, as Porter-O’Donnell (2004) stated, is “a writing-to-learn strategy for use while reading or re-reading…[It] helps readers reach a deeper level of engagement and promotes active reading. It makes the reader’s “dialogue with the text” (Probst) a visible record of the thoughts that emerge while making sense of the reading” (p. 82).

Five Search Tools Students Often Overlook | Free Technology for Teachers | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

In our new remote teaching and learning environments students may find themselves having to look things up online more than ever before. Even if you're hosting online class meetings in Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams there will still be lots of time when students need to do some research on their own. This is a good time to remind students about some basic search strategies like creating a search checklist and consulting vocabulary lists as part of the search process. Once they've done those basics it might be time for them to try some other search tools that often get overlooked.

Helpful Academic Writing Guides for Student Researchers

Helpful Academic Writing Guides for Student Researchers | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
The theme of this week’s book collection is academic writing and to this end I curated for you this useful list. I am principally addressing research students and academics but the insights and tips from these books are also relevant to anyone keen on improving their writing style. As a research student, you get to do a lot of writing and usually across different genres, from a literature review to writing a research grant proposal. Each of these writing projects call for a specific set of skills and involve different practices and stylistics (in the popular sense of the word not the linguistic one). And because nobody of us is born a good writer, it takes so much practice to better your writing style and even much more practice when it comes to academic writing. However, what I am talking about here is guided practice, one that draws on established guidelines and norms. In other words, if you want to learn how to write better you need to learn it from people who master the craft.

We wanted to share some tools that can be useful for different types of collaboration - for when the standard, janky conference call software won't do the trick. Copyright and Creativity for Ethical Digital Citizens - free K-12 resources for teaching students about copyright and fair use | Educational Technology Guy | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

Copyright and Creativity for Ethical Digital Citizens, is a nonprofit project that has developed a suite of free K-12 resources for teaching students about copyright and fair use.

The premise is that students today need to learn the basics of copyright as an element of digital citizenship. That's especially true in the current crisis, as teachers and students shift virtually all of their educational and social activity online. Whether they know it or not, they are doing things that raise copyright questions. For example, when is it OK to use some of someone else’s work in a project or presentation? How should they expect others to treat their own work online?

Quick Capture is a great Chrome extension you can use to take screenshots of your current page. One particular feature we like the most about this app is full-page screen capture. With a single click, Quick Capture generates a screenshot of the whole page. It also offers a wide variety of tools to annotate and edit your screenshots. You can add text, shapes, arrows, edit using a pencil or brush, crop specific parts, add emojis and many more.

Some Good Presentation Tools for Teachers and Students | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
As a teacher chances are you have already created a presentation of some sort or presented in front of an audience (e.g., in a conference, at school…etc). And as you know, presenting is a skill that requires practice at two levels: the first level is related to the creation process and the second one is related to the delivery of the final product, that is, the actual presenting before an audience. In today's post, we are  concerned  with the first level: how to create effective and professionally looking presentations.
