Will Hospitals Go The Way Like Newspapers?

Will Hospitals Go The Way Like Newspapers? | Hospitals: Trends in Branding and Marketing | Scoop.it
Jim Clifton, the Chairman of Gallup, makes a strong case that we're in World War III in his book  The Coming Jobs War.
eMedToday's insight:

Any CEO of a Hospital needs to read this article or see their hospital go the way of newspapers.

While health systems dawdle, their lunch is being eaten by an array of new entrants reminiscent of what happened to newspapers.

Onsite workplace clinics: Frustrated at how much time it takes for employees to get in for a 10 minute appointment, onsite clinic providers are seeing their businesses grow 100% year over year. See  Direct Primary Care providers: Another innovative new model that is  two parts Marcus Welby and one part Steve Jobs is poised to explode as venture firms and health plans are investing in organizations such as Iora Health and Qliance while DaVita is making a major bet with their Paladina Health division.Retail clinics such as Minute Clinic and ZoomCare are filling an unmet need and are rapidly growing. Organizations such as CVS, Walgreen’s, Target and Walmart are also getting their pharmacists out from behind their counter to more actively get involved in medication management that is so vital to managing chronic conditions.Domestic medical tourism:  Walmart joined Lowes and Pepsico in creating a national market for surgical procedures. Now every hospital in the country is effectively in competition with the Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, Virginia Mason and other top facilities who provide fixed fee procedures with outstanding outcomes. Add to this the movement to transparent pricing on surgeries and it chips away at some of the most lucrative, non-emergent procedures a hospital delivers.

Patient Engagement Is The Key

Patient Engagement Is The Key | Hospitals: Trends in Branding and Marketing | Scoop.it
With ACOs, patient-centered medical homes and Meaningful Use requirements, patient engagement is the shiny, new component of the modern healthcare system that rightfully is receiving a lot of attention.

Via Sam Stern
eMedToday's insight:

The author says patient engagement is not an admin portal

Most patient experience efforts I have seen are purely marketing. Frankly, the category we get lumped into most of the time is patient portal. For 99% of what we have seen, the patient portals have primary been checking a marketing checkbox and simply focused on administrative functions. Certainly there’s no issue with improving upon administrative hassles, but that still wildly underestimates the importance of patients as well as their families and caregivers.
