Smith & Jones Awarded Gold for Ellis Medicine Brand and Patient TV Spot Series | Hospitals: Trends in Branding and Marketing | Scoop.it
Smith & Jones received a Gold award from the 30th Annual Healthcare Advertising Awards for the Ellis Medicine Service Line Brand/Patient TV Spots in the TV Series category.
eMedToday's insight:

Another extremely way for hosptials to create brand awareness is to do a video on the same approach and post it on their web site OR mobile app

"The winning TV series featured two different types of spots from three different campaigns executed in 2012. The patient spots feature excerpts of candid interviews with the main patients from the cardiac, cancer, and maternity campaigns, Errol Singh, Shelly Shinebarger, and Jen Bergeron, respectively. In their interviews, they discuss their experiences at Ellis and why it was their hospital of choice."

eMedToday's curator insight, June 10, 2013 8:55 PM

A Pharma could have a doctor interview a patient on their experinece with a drug and post on Pharma web site.

Much better than spending billions on DTC TV ads which consumers do not watch

eMedToday's insight:

Shocking

"As we discovered, getting another doctor's view can dramatically change a treatment plan and even a diagnosis — research finds it happens in as many as 30% of cases. In one particularly dramatic finding recently published in the journal Cancer, the recommendations for surgery changed for more than half of breast cancer patients who received a second opinion. In some cases, previously undiagnosed second tumors"

Think about the power of a hospial have a mobile app. A patients on their smartphone looks up another doctor in 2 seconds and makes schedules a visit. And the patients looks up their medical condition one of the top medical reference books like the Mayo Clinic.

Why Newly Hired Physicians are a Loss for Hospitals: Mobile App?

But it doesn't always work according to that plan, at least in the short term. For one thing, “many clinicians are unaware that hospitals lose money on their employed physicians,” according to this Perspective in the New ...
eMedToday's insight:

Interesting fact:

“Hospitals lose $150,000 to $250,000 per year over the first 3 years of employing a physician—owing in part to a slow ramp-up period as physicians establish themselves or transition their practices and adapt to management changes.”

Now, could a mobile hospital app with a directory of doctors and a call to feature increase the exposure of new doctors to patients.

Probably.

eMedToday's insight:

In the age of transparency, hospitals will no be able to keep their prices secret. Mobile appls are growing up which compare hospital/doctors prices.

The conclusion:

The introduction of hospital price comparisons is expected to provide the public with yet another reference point, and prospectively lead to lowering costs in the system.

.

From a hospital marketing and advertising perspective, facilities will–more than ever–need to need to standout from the competition. Although “price” is now a consideration, effective differentiation and marketing success will remain rooted in delivering benefits and solutions to the patient and the community

Is Your Hospital Website Senior-Friendly ?

Is Your Hospital Website Senior-Friendly ? | Hospitals: Trends in Branding and Marketing | Scoop.it
As more seniors use the Internet (and the audience grows much more quickly than the general population of users), your website’s usability for this audience is paramount to the health of your organization.
eMedToday's insight:

The US is growing old and with high incidence of chronic diseases.

In fact, the Administration on Aging predicts that people 65 and older will represent 19% of the population by 2030. Second, greater percentages of seniors are going online year after year.

Previous NNG usability studies demonstrated that the biggest factor in Web performance declining with age is that older users need more time to comprehend and scan Web pages for the information they need. Furthermore, the very act of navigating websites becomes more difficult with aging.

So this is a consideration for designing web sites for hosptials and Pharmas.

eMedToday's insight:

"Over the last two years, Kaiser has itself produced four mobile applications for iPhone and Android smartphones that allow Kaiser healthcare plan participants to set up doctors' appointments, see electronic medical records, view most lab results and refill prescriptions, among other things. One of those applications, Every Body Walk, has been downloaded from the iTunes store 85,000 times, while the app that allows patents to schedule appointments has been downloaded over 500,000 times to iOS and Android devices. That outcome has prompted Kaiser officials to realize what a valuable new channel has been opened between itself and its members"

The take away here is that for the right app there can be large downloads of the app. Big deal
