"The pandemic has taken a toll on all our institutions, and schools aren’t exempt. School leaders know that schools are closed, but teaching must go on, and; learning must go on. Schools have moved to online learning. Educators are working from home, delivering classes to learners over the video, preparing lesson plans, collaborating with other educators, amongst many other tasks. Educators are working harder and longer, and many are exploring the edtech at their disposal. It is a big change that requires school leaders to manage their educators’ motivation to prevent loss in productivity and burn-out."

"A reader sent me an email asking how they could use digital apps and tools to facilitate active collaboration in their classroom. I thought it was an interesting question, and so I decided to reply in the form of a short blog post. I hope you enjoy my answer. The short answer is yes, active collaboration and participation can be achieved through digital tools. They allow learners to maintain a collaborative environment with their classmates or even learners located across the state, country, or world."

"The integration of gamification, the utilization of big data, and personalization of the learning experience are what edtech is trending toward today. From mobile learning to online learning, tech is at the center of edtech. Distance learning programs allow learners to participate in an academic program from afar, without ever being in the same location as the other learners or the teacher."

"“Well, at least teachers don’t have to spend as much of their own money on school supplies this year if they’re teaching online,” mused a pair of ladies waiting for their Starbucks orders. Unfortunately, that couldn’t be farther from the truth for many teachers. Teacher expenses are higher than ever due to remote teaching. Teachers are used to spending their own money on supplies, but technology expenses add up in a whole new way. On top of the extra expenses, many teachers are bringing home less money due to education budget cuts."

In many ways, 2020 has been THE year of edtech. Technology experienced a meaningful surge in adoption by schools, districts and parents. The industry saw large capital inflows and more edtech “unicorns” than in any other prior year. Mergers and acquisitions are booming. Edtech funds closed larger funds, and top-notch venture capital investors including a16z, Lightspeed and Union Square Ventures have developed investment theses on education.

"Mobile learning, which is also called mLearning, is the practice of delivering education to students through their mobile devices. Many students around the world already receive plenty of information relevant to their schoolwork through their internet-connected devices, which is what makes mobile learning so effective. However, it can be tricky to tell whether or not a mobile learning program is working as intended."

"Technology is enabling learning like never before, with millions of students attending school remotely for some or all of their regular instruction this fall. With this skyrocketing growth in technology use, however, comes greater concerns around student privacy. Which technologies are collecting student data? How is that data being used? Who has access to it? And how long is it kept?"

"In my past two decades of remote teaching and learning, I have taught courses to all ages of learners, and a multitude of sizes of classrooms. Over the past four months, during COVID-19, I taught many different mindfulness, technology, storytelling and social-emotional learning programs for different sizes and types of cohorts. What we focus on first, every single time, is relationships. We focus on ways to show care and compassion for each other. The content follows."

If educators can see the value in adopting a new technology or instructional strategy--in terms of enhancing learning, streamlining tasks, saving time, etc.--they will be more inclined to learn something new. The challenge is convincing educators that investing the time to learn the new tool or skill is worth the effort.
