Si l’Aviation légère de l’armée de Terre [ALAT] a été désignée pour prendre possession des premiers hélicoptères interarmées légers [HIL] H160M Guépard, il n’en reste pas moins que le Centre d’expertise aérienne militaire [CEAM] de l’armée de l’Air & de l’Espace [AAE] est actuellement très impliqué dans le développement de ce nouvel appareil. C’est en effet ce qu’il a rappelé à l’occasion du vol inaugural du second prototype construit par Airbus Helicopters.

«Le H160M Guépard équipera progressivement, dès 2031, les bases aériennes de Villacoublay, Cayenne, Cazaux – où il viendra compléter les capacités du Caracal au sein d’un pôle ‘haut de spectre’ – puis Orange», a-t-il précisé.

En attendant, l’AAE devra garder ses quarante hélicoptères Fennec, qu’elle utilise notamment pour des missions dites MASA [pour mesures actives de sûreté aérienne] et, désormais, la lutte antidrone. D’ailleurs, à ce sujet, la configuration de la caméra Trekka et du canon axial de 20 mm équipant cet appareil a récemment été autorisée «pour emploi», à l’issue d’une campagne d’essais menée par le CEAM.

Quoi qu’il en soit, en octobre 2024, la Direction de la maintenance aéronautique [DMAé] avait émis un appel d’offres ayant pour objet le maintien en condition opérationnelle [MCO] des Fennec de l’AAE. Et cela alors que ce marché avait été confié à Sabena Technics pour une durée de dix ans en 2021.

Moins de deux ans après, le contrat «verticalisé» concernant ces hélicoptères [ainsi que trois Fennec de la Direction générale de l’armement] a été notifié à un groupement formé par HeliDax et Défense Conseil International [DCI]. La DMAé l’a annoncé via le média social LinkedIn, le 5 août.

«Ce marché d’une durée de 10 ans couvre notamment la réalisation des visites de maintenance ainsi que le soutien technique et logistique», a-t-elle indiqué. Le montant du contrat n’a pas été précisé.

Pour rappel, HeliDax avait déjà été retenu pour assurer le MCO des dix-huit Fennec de l’ALAT. Il s’agissait d’ailleurs de l’un des premiers contrats «verticalisés» notifiée par la DMAé, suite à la réforme du MCO aéronautique lancée en 2018. Les résultats avaient été probants puisque le coût de l’heure de vol était passé de 3 500 à 1 800 euros, avec un taux de disponibilité multiplié par deux.

Cela étant, les modalités du MCO vont encore évoluer dans les mois à venir. En tout cas, c’est ce que souhaite le général Jérôme Bellanger, le chef d’état-major de l’AAE.

«Dans la transition d’un MCO de contrat vers un MCO de combat, l’enjeu consiste dans le renouvellement des grands contrats de ‘verticalisation’, en cours à la DMA», et dans le fait de revoir nos exigences, certaines normes s’avérant en définitive inutiles : il s’agit d’obtenir un MCO de combat à la fois moins coûteux et plus conforme à la réalité de nos besoins opérationnels», avait-il en effet expliqué, lors d’une audition au Sénat, en mai dernier.
