Video Curation: Auto-Create YouTube Video Playlists with Integrated Thumbnails

Video Curation: Auto-Create YouTube Video Playlists with Integrated Thumbnails | Digital Curation in Education | Scoop.it

Robin Good: YouTube has released new functionality that allows you to create an embeddable video playlist on any topic, or user ID while integrating thumbnails for all clips included.

Here is an example. Go to: http://www.youtube.com/embed/?listType=user_uploads&list=RobinGood&showinfo=1 and see an automatically created playlist of all my uploaded video clips.

And if you pass also the parameter, "showinfo=1", when creating the player, the list of video thumbnails will be permanently visible by clicking in the playlist icon appearing on the bottom right of the YouTube player.

If you want to embed such a playlist use this syntax:

**<iframe width="560" height="315"
src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/?listType=user_uploads&amp;amp;list=RobinGood&amp;amp;showinfo=1" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>***

and replace "RobinGood" with any YouTube user id.

Alternatively, replace listType=user with listType=search or listType=user_uploads to get specific terms searched and aggregated or to showcase all the uploads of a certain YouTube user.

Here is another example: http://www.youtube.com/embed/?listType=search&amp;amp;list=news%20curation&amp;amp;showinfo=1&amp;nbsp;- here I have changed the listType to "search" and have used as query terms "news curation". Check the result.

Readlists

Readlists | Digital Curation in Education | Scoop.it
A Readlist is a group of web pages—articles, recipes, course materials, anything—bundled into an e-book you can send to your Kindle, iPad, or iPhone.

KF:  There are several terrific uses for this type of tool in an eLearning context.  Collect all your favourite articles and webpages then export as an eBook.  Develop a pathway thourgh a collection of sites that will guide your learners in a meanigful way.  Have your students develop and share lists around key topics in your course.  Have students construct a course review by way of a focussed eBook.  Once you start playing with this the ideas will start flowing.

17 Tips To Help You Become Better At Content Curation

17 Tips To Help You Become Better At Content Curation | Digital Curation in Education | Scoop.it

Excerpted from article:

"Over the past few years I must have heard the phrase ‘everyone is a publisher nowadays’ a thousand times or more. It’s largely accurate, due to the rise of social media, but I think we are mainly ‘curators’, as opposed to ‘publishers’.

Content curation is something that many of us will be familiar with, even if we don’t think of ourselves as curators. We instinctively find and share interesting content with our personal and professional networks. We follow others who share the kind of links that engage and entertain.

Here are my 17 tips to help you become even better at content curation, with one eye on Twitter:

1) Set up some feeds

2) Make the most of email alerts

3) Get to grips with Twitter Search

4) Use advanced search queries

5) Follow the 70/30 rule

6) Find the right tools for the job

7) Own a niche

8) Read, read, read!

9) Write, write, write!

10) Timing is crucial

11) Aggregate the good stuff

12) Tune in to the right people

13) Mix up your tweets

14) Don't be afraid of the detail

15) Consider repeating yourself

16) Try to avoid the obvious

17) Use a notebook

Each tips is analyzed with some details. Read full article here: http://j.mp/K8AVt4

If you have news, it will be aggregated and/or curated

If you have news, it will be aggregated and/or curated | Digital Curation in Education | Scoop.it

"One thing that becomes clear from the latest Pew report on the state of media is just how big a role aggregators -- both human and machine-powered -- are playing in news consumption." comments Mathew Ingram on GigaOm.

He goes on to analyze what this means for the business models of media outlets that weren't built around the assumption that as high as 30% of their trafic would come from news agregators or human curators.

I'd love the study to make a better difference between news readers such as Flipboard or Zite, agregation sites such as the Huffington Post and the work of human curators on platform such as Scoop.it. But it's great to have a measure of the huge impact curation already has.

How to search a Scoop.it site using Google

How to search a Scoop.it site using Google | Digital Curation in Education | Scoop.it

Surely Scoop.it is hard at work developing a way for readers and curators to search within its sites, but the tool just isn't ready yet.

In the meantime, I wanted to share a workaround so folks who want to search within a Scoop.it site can do so.

The way to do this is to go to Google search and type the prefix "site:" in front of the url of the desired site to be searched. Then skip a space and enter the search term(s).

For example, if I wanted to search one of my Scoop.it sites, Into the Driver's Seat, for

entries containing information about the Flipped Classroom, the search string would look like this:

site:http://www.scoop.it/t/into-the-driver-s-seat Flipped Classroom

Note that there is no space between the colon after "site" and the url, but there is a space after the url and the search term(s). In my experience, it does not seem to matter if the first letter of the search term words is a capital.

If you have additional suggestions for how to search a specific Scoop.it site, please hit the sharing icon (dialogue bubble), below, and comment.

Hope this is helpful. -JL

How Can Web 2.0 Curation Tools Be Used in the Classroom?

How Can Web 2.0 Curation Tools Be Used in the Classroom? | Digital Curation in Education | Scoop.it

The role of the curator has always been to help pull together and oversee collections of materials. But just as Web 2.0 has expanded the traditional role of publisher to almost anyone, the role of curator now too is changing. Anyone can “curate” online material, pulling together their own collections.

Content Curation defined

Content curation is the ongoing finding and sharing of relevant digital and non-digital content about a specific topic for a specific audience. Typically, this content will come from a variety of properly credited sources and will be collated in such a way that the collection will be more useful than its individual elements.
