This is a really cool resource! The Alphabet of Spiritual Literacycreated by Frederic and Mary Ann Brussat is a list of beautiful words which are actually spiritual practices from A to Z from all traditions. #guidetomeditation #aboutmeditation #mentaltraining Not every article about meditation has be to a guide to meditation. This article states that relaxation and peace is not the main purpose of why we meditate. It goes on to state that meditation is mental training. It helps us not react to daily life. It helps with our body's natural healing powers and helps us make more conscious choices throughout the day.

Forgiving and nurturing yourself can set the stage for better health, relationships, and general well-being. Self-compassion yields a number of benefits, including lower levels of anxiety and depression. Self-compassionate people recognize when they are suffering and are kind to themselves at these times, which reduces their anxiety and related depression.

Greenberg provides basic concepts of mindfulness. A mindfulness practice fosters a deeper connection to self and grounds your very being in the present moment. In the Christian tradition centering prayer opens oneself to the presence of God within and deeply into the experience of the sacrament of the present moment. Learning to say 'Yes!' is an invitation to living beyond words, emotions, and thoughts and leading from within.

No need to add.. Read Annette Schmeling's insight. For those that have read Melanie's blog post, it is a good reminder and also a good piece to share with others inquiring about Mindfulness. Thomas Aquinas said when asked how do you explain the world. Explain the world in terms of God. The follow on question flowed quite naturally: How do you explain God. He said: You explain God in terms of complete and absolute Mystery. Lee Thayer's next book in process is on Mental Hygiene. All that we address and talk about are human explanations and interpretations. What we speak of as reality is something that we will never know as it is always seen through the eyes of the beholder. We say: I learn from my experience. What we mean is: I learn from my interpretations of my experience. I realize I may have the same near death experience as you and our interpretations of that experience may be polar opposite.

Mindfulness is a way of being present to yourself and the present moment. It is also a process of becoming your true self.

According to this study, when a baby is held a calming response is experienced in the parasympatheic nervous system and a part of the brain called the cerebellum. The cerebellum sits at the very back and bottom of our brains and manages things like breathing, heart rate, balance and movement.
I would like to know what happens in the adult brain when a baby is held and calmed...most likely the same thing. The Neuroscience of Calming a Baby
