». « Le BMJ, The Lancet… @SciGuardianshttps://lnkd.in/ew4tPKfJ

Abolishing the NIH has always been this admin’s plan. They told us in Project 2025. They’ve SHOWN us with their actions over the past 18 months.
This is why a heads down approach will not work. The scientific community has 2 options: oppose this with all we’ve got, or let them carry out their plan.

Can science itself be part of the misinformation problem?
Our new paper in PNAS, shows that Scientific Authority Cues (i.e. mentions of scientific entities such as studies, institutions, and experts in articles shared on social media), play an important role in this phenomenon. The presence of such mentions increase information spread, especially of low-veracity content (articles fact-chcked as false or coming from low-credibility websites). We analyzed over 8 million tweets and ran a preregistered experiment with ~1,200 U.S. adults: attributing claims to a scientific authority (e.g. "study says that ...") makes people more willing to share them, and are judged to be more accurate and credible. The effect is particularly strong for right-leaning users, which nuances a long-held expectation about the perception of science across ideological lines. In highly polarized information ecosystems such as social media, the question is less whether people trust science, but which science they trust.
In summary, the credibility signals we associate with science can be leveraged to make misinformation spread further.
This is joint work at Sciences Po médialab, with Prof. Achim Edelmann, and Rodrigo Reyes Cordova, who just became Dr. Reyes Cordova 🎉 after defending an excellent thesis on the perception of science and expertise in our increasingly polarized world.

We analysed the TikTok history of 142 men. Here’s what it taught us about the manosphere (VOX-Pol):
https://lnkd.in/d7n-Pbwd
Glimpse: In order to better understand how young men in Australia, the US, and the UK interact with and navigate the manosphere—a network of online content ecosystems centered around masculinity—this research examines their TikTok watching histories. After analyzing more than 2,000 films, the researchers discovered that 44% of them had themes related to masculinity that divided into three ascending tiers: demeaning health content (misogyny, risky activity, guideline-violating material), masculine status content (self-improvement framed through rigid gender norms), and cultural touchpoints (gym, fashion, dating). The study demonstrates how seemingly harmless content may progressively mainstream negative storylines, giving extreme messages a familiar feel. It suggests using this classification paradigm to provide early, customized interventions, enhance recommender systems, and promote healthier digital environments for young males, arguing that the existing moderation is too reactive.

"But there are limits to what we accept when other people are at risk. Most wildfires are not started by people who set out to burn entire landscapes. They start with something small: a cigarette in dry grass, a campfire someone assumed was out. The person who caused it may never have intended the damage that followed. But intention does not contain the fire once it spreads.
Once it starts moving, it stops being yours.
This is completely preventable. The measles, mumps and rubella vaccine has been studied for decades and remains one of the most effective tools in modern medicine. The CDC makes this point plainly: Getting the MMR vaccine is much safer than getting measles, and serious complications from the vaccine are extremely rare. Nearly 1 out of every 3 children under the age of 5 who catches measles ends up in the hospital, according to the AAP. And nearly 1 to 3 of every 1,000 children will die, the CDC reports.
And yet, we are watching a preventable disease move through our communities again.
At some point, this stops being a question of personal preference and starts becoming a question of responsibility. Infectious diseases do not care about the boundaries we draw around our own choices. They move through households, classrooms and communities. The consequences move with them. Public health requires public cooperation and participation." https://lnkd.in/gFTQfm6S

As we celebrate the birth of our country, it's a good opportunity to remember that infectious diseases can impact military success as demonstrated in this clip from our team and the "We the People Vax" campaign. We were also reminded of the importance of protection from infectious diseases recently when influenza sickened recruits at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in Texas after the influenza vaccine mandate was removed by Sec. Hegseth.
Vaccines work. Vaccines save lives. Vaccines keep people - and troops - healthy!

Every child deserves a future protected from polio. A few drops may seem small, but they have the power to protect a lifetime of dreams, milestones, and possibilities. On National Pulse Polio Day, Sri Sri Holistic Hospitals encourages every parent and caregiver to ensure that every eligible child receives the polio vaccine. Timely immunization remains one of the most effective ways to protect children from a preventable disease and move us closer to a polio-free future. Together, let us strengthen the promise of a healthier generation, one child, one family, and one community at a time. Because every drop counts. Every child matters. #NationalPulsePolioDay #PulsePolio #EndPolio #Polio #ChildHealth #Vaccination #PreventiveHealthcare #SriSriHolisticHospitals #HealthyChildren #ImmunizationForAll

Parents today are navigating an overwhelming amount of health information online, making it harder than ever to know what to trust.
Building vaccine confidence requires earning trust, listening to concerns, and ensuring families have access to reliable, evidence-based information from the people they trust most: their pediatricians.
The American Academy of Pediatrics' Vaccine Confidence initiative is working to support families, equip pediatricians with resources, and combat misinformation with clear, science-based communication. As vaccine-preventable diseases continue to re-emerge in communities across the country, these conversations have never been more important.

"Before the first successful vaccine was developed in 1796, Americans had little protection against deadly infectious diseases like smallpox, measles and diphtheria.
Over the next 250 years, vaccines helped eliminate or dramatically reduce many vaccine-preventable infectious diseases, preventing millions of illnesses, infections and deaths.
“There is a reason that vaccines are widely considered to be the greatest public health tool after sanitation,” Fox News senior medical analyst Dr. Marc Siegel told Fox News Digital.
“They are designed to ‘fool’ the immune system into thinking it has seen a disease, creating an ‘immune memory’ to provoke an immune response to the pathogen when it actually does appear.”
“True vaccines have side effects, and there is the risk of vaccine injury — but overall, the benefit to the individual and society vastly outweighs any harm,” Siegel added.
As the US marks its 250th anniversary, the following vaccines stand out among the most significant medical achievements in the country’s history." https://lnkd.in/gBFh4B7H

A Morality Based Target Audience Analysis of Twitter Disinformation Propaganda (Preprints):
https://lnkd.in/dWdZ5fbm
Glimpse: The study looks at how propaganda uses human moral psychology to influence moral and political judgments, demonstrating how people may respond differently to the same information due to differences in their underlying cognitive and emotional processes. Disinformation tactics take use of moral intuitions and threat perceptions by focusing on psychological schemata rather than physical infrastructure. The study uses Moral Foundations Theory (MFT) to map the moral content of propaganda, identifying the moral narratives ingrained in media streams by grouping phrases and hashtags. In order to represent how information interacts with audience psychology and show how non-selective measurement impacts cognitive states, it advances a quantum open-system cognitive model. By including moral-psychological dynamics into target-audience and threat-vector research, these methods provide a more comprehensive framework for comprehending and combating propaganda.
