Words matter in public health. They matter everywhere, all of the time, but probably most in public health.
One of the most concerning trends emerging in recent months is not only the policy changes surrounding vaccines, but the apparent suppression, delay, or reframing of scientific communication itself.
This recent article from CIDRAP highlights growing concern among physicians, researchers, and public health experts that inconsistent messaging and interference with scientific communication may further erode public trust in vaccines and health institutions.
As someone with roots in journalism and a career in continuing medical education, I think often about what happens downstream when scientific communication becomes fragmented, politicized, or difficult to trust.
Clinicians are already navigating an overwhelming volume of rapidly evolving information. CME exists, in part, to help healthcare professionals critically evaluate evidence, contextualize new data, and translate it into patient care with clarity and confidence.
Ultimately, the goal of medical education today is no longer simply knowledge acquisition. It is behavior change: improving clinical decision-making, strengthening provider-patient communication, and supporting evidence-based care that leads to better patient outcomes.
BUT, meaningful behavior change depends on something fundamental: trust in the integrity and accessibility of the underlying science.
When public trust in scientific institutions weakens, the ripple effects extend far beyond headlines. They influence clinician confidence, patient conversations, vaccine decision-making, and ultimately public health outcomes.
Clear, evidence-based communication isn’t ancillary to healthcare. It’s part of the infrastructure.

Odd, no mention of the fact that antivax "experts" are satuarating social media, including LI with misinformation about HPV vaccine. I feel badly for the young ladies in these southern states who will be geting cervical cancer deades from now becuase their parents were mislead by RFLJ and his fake physician experts.

So may children are being denied vaccines and are exposed to vaccine preventable diseases. Some have died. More will die. Organizations like Children's Health Defense are pushing misinformation that has created vaccine mistrust without any scientific justification. The only way to restore trust in public health is to hold those responsible for destroying it accountable. Children's Health Defense must be brought to justice and silence…

| 20 comments on LinkedIn

A child of two anti-vaccine parents ended up with serious consequences from meningococcal meningitis. "My whole class thought I was drunk. I was swaying into the road, barely able to stay upright during what should have been a simple walk from our school to the local church for play rehearsal. My teachers were barking at me to get out of the road. Everyone was laughing. I was eleven years old, and in the early stages of meningococcal meningitis.
Nobody recognized how sick I was, including my parents.
It Started Like the Flu
At first, I had a general feeling of being unwell, a bit stuffy. Flu-like. I had headaches. I’d started to become sensitive to light, but not dramatically. I was still going to school. We had a performance coming up, rehearsals to get through. I pushed on.
What I remember most distinctly from that walk to rehearsal is how unwell and disoriented I felt. But I was a kid, and nobody around me seemed concerned, so I kept going.
The next day I went to school and football practice afterward. That’s when the fever and chills started. It was unfortunate timing—it was a snowy cold day, so everyone assumed the cold caused my chills. It felt different to me, though. I knew.
That night, after practice, I spent the entire evening crying. My headaches had gotten worse. My fever was out of control. I couldn’t stop shaking. The lights were making me disoriented. At one point I vomited. I was given some liquid medicine and sent to bed." https://lnkd.in/gzNPF2sT

Misinformation around vaccines is deadly. If one is to ask for accountability, it should be willing to be held accountable as well. Children's Health Defense is pushing a dangerous narrative that leads to vaccine mistrust which can lead to decrease vaccination rates, and such to death. As living proof, no one in the 21th century should die of measles. And is is happening... Being called out for such is not misinformation. LinkedIn is clearly missing the point here and caving to anti-vaxxers. Doing so is going against their own policy stating ¨ Do not share content that directly contradicts guidance from leading global health organizations and public health authorities; including false information about the safety or efficacy of vaccines or medical treatments. ¨If LinkedIn would enforce their own policy, there would be no Children's Health Defense, no McCullough Foundation, no Physicians for Informed Consent, no #philipmcmillan, no #nicolashulscher, and no Vejon Health Ltd on this platform.

This is another way anti-vaccine efforts are, literally, killing babies. "They entered the world the way babies should, with piercing cries announcing their arrival. They passed their newborn screening tests. Some made it to their 2-week wellness visits without concern.
Then, without warning, their systems began to shut down. A 7-week-old boy in Maryland developed sudden seizures. An 11-pound girl in Alabama stopped breathing for 20 seconds at a time. A baby boy in Kentucky vomited before becoming lethargic. A brown-haired girl in Texas, not yet 2 weeks old, bled around her belly button.
Desperate to save them, records show, doctors inserted tubes into their airways and hooked them up to IVs. They ordered blood transfusions. They spent half an hour trying to resuscitate one boy until his parents told them they could stop. They shaved another boy’s soft locks to embed a needle directly into his skull to reduce the pressure in his brain.
None of it was enough.
At the morgue, the babies were brought in with their diapers and blankets and with their hospital ID bracelets still wrapped around their tiny ankles. The pathologists’ findings were like those you would typically see in ailing adults, not newborns — the kind of bleeding seen during strokes or brain tissue loss similar to what happens when radiation is administered to treat cancer.
Their autopsies, which took place over the last several years, all came to the same conclusion: The deaths were caused, in whole or in part, by a rare but potentially fatal condition known as vitamin K deficiency bleeding.
In almost every case, the babies’ deaths could have been prevented with a long-standard vitamin K shot. But across the country, families — first in smatterings, now in droves — are declining the single, inexpensive injection given at birth to newborns to help their blood clot.
Many of them are doing so out of a well-meaning but ill-informed abundance of caution. In the hopes of safeguarding their newborns from what they see as unnecessary medical intervention, they have shunned fundamental and scientifically sound pharmaceutical intervention. The trend is also fueled by a contradictory pairing: families’ fierce desire to protect their babies and a cascade of false information infused into their social media algorithms."

🔎📰 NSEvacc JOURNAL CLUB: Communication about vaccines has a global audience, which is not odd at all. Just think about it - we are all at several time points in our lives as children, adolescents, or as parents with children of our own confronted with childhood vaccines. Given the large audience, it has an overwhelming and devastating impact to mislead and misinform about childhood vaccines. The communication about non-specific vaccine effects (NSE) is exactly that: 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐯𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬.
The elusive evidence of NSE has been the topic of this journal club for nearly three years now. In this current issue we will dig into some head spinning 😵💫 explanations of why the researchers advocating NSE always seem to find NSE - although what they find is in fact nothing and their data are truly and utterly non-replicable - they continuously manage to come up with new explanations. One of their go to explanations is that the 𝐬𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐯𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐞 matters and determines the NSE. Oh my – what a mystery. Read along in this issue of the Journal Club and learn more!

May 11th.
After that day, Anthony Fauci will be free forever for the many crimes against humanity he took part in surrounding COVID.
The thousands who died from the COVID vaccines will have died for nothing.
The millions with lifelong vaccine injuries will live on knowing the key figure who pushed and lied about the product that injured them will walk among them with zero repercussions.
The tens of millions who have, for years, pleaded and cried for even an ounce of accountability for what occurred during COVID will know that their voices mean nothing.
The only way to restore trust in public health is to hold those responsible for destroying it accountable.
The clock is ticking.
The DOJ must act before it’s too late.

The study authors propose an evolutionary hypothesis: Amerindian populations have been exposed to ANDV for over 10,000 years, potentially selecting for protective genetic variants, while Europeans arrived in South America only in the 16th century and have had far less evolutionary pressure (Vial et al., 2019, p. 4). Similar patterns have been observed in Paraguay, where indigenous populations have high seroprevalence but low disease severity, while European‑descended Mennonites experience severe HCPS (Ferrer et al., 1998, cited in Vial et al., 2019, p. 4). This implies that European populations, lacking historical exposure, are immunologically naive and genetically vulnerable to #ANDV26. #ANDV #ANDESVIRUS #HANTAVIRUS

It is deeply frustrating to watch legitimate scientific discussion still be labelled as “misinformation” simply because it challenges established consensus.
Science was never meant to be protected from questioning. It was designed to survive questioning.
Over the last few years, many researchers, clinicians, and scientists who tried to interrogate unusual patterns in COVID-19 pathophysiology were often dismissed before their arguments were even examined properly. Not because the mechanisms were disproven — but because they did not align with the prevailing narrative at the time.
My recent discussion around "rhymes with pectin" was not about promoting blind belief in a drug. It was about asking a mechanistic question: If severe COVID-19 behaves partly as an intestinally-driven immune complex disease with vascular and inflammatory consequences, could that explain why some datasets showed signals of benefit that deserve further investigation?
That is a scientific question.
Not misinformation.
The emerging concern around hantavirus should remind all of us that science cannot function properly if inquiry itself becomes taboo. New diseases require open analysis, competing hypotheses, and the willingness to revisit assumptions when evidence changes.
True science is not consensus-driven.
It is evidence-driven.
And history repeatedly shows that some of the greatest scientific failures occur when institutions become more focused on controlling narratives than understanding mechanisms.
Ironically, some of the most damaging misinformation during the pandemic came not from people asking difficult questions — but from authoritative sources that presented uncertainty as settled science.

| 22 comments on LinkedIn

🚨🚨Public health communication carries real responsibility.
When individuals with millions of followers use social media to spread misinformation about vaccines, infectious diseases, and conspiracy theories, the consequences extend far beyond engagement metrics or viral content. False claims can influence health behaviors, erode trust in science, increase vaccine hesitancy, and ultimately place vulnerable communities at greater risk.
Vaccines have helped prevent millions of deaths globally through the reduction of diseases such as measles, polio, influenza, COVID-19, and other infectious illnesses. While healthy discussion and transparency in science are important, spreading unverified or fear-based narratives without evidence can contribute to confusion, delayed care, and preventable harm.
The challenge in today’s digital environment is that influence often moves faster than evidence. A single viral post can reach more people in hours than many public health campaigns reach in months. That is why health communication must remain rooted in: • Evidence-based research • Scientific literacy • Ethical responsibility • Community trust and transparency
As public health professionals, healthcare providers, educators, and advocates, we must continue improving how we communicate complex health information in ways that are accessible, compassionate, and accurate.
Misinformation is not just a social media issue. It is a public health issue.
