🎯 Single-dose HPV vaccination: What’s holding countries back, and what’s pushing them forward?

Understanding what drives—or slows—national decisions to adopt single-dose HPV vaccine schedules is critical as updated evidence and WHO recommendations create new opportunities for coverage expansion.

A recent study from reserachers at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health synthesizes insights from immunization stakeholders across 19 LMICs on factors influencing HPV schedule decision-making.

Key insights:
📈 Stakeholders value single-dose schedules for higher completion, broader coverage, and reduced delivery costs
📦 Simplified schedules help optimise stock and operational capacity, particularly where supply constraints persist
🚧 Barriers include limited localized long-term evidence and the resources required to adjust existing programmes

Fake News related to Covid and Vaccinations slightly decreased compared to other topics such as ukrainian war, gaza war, and politics in USA even sports related informations... but the involvement of politicians in the topic very much increased !

Most aged care providers running vaccination systems struggle with coordination.

In my experience, the challenge isn’t willingness.

It’s everything around the clinic that makes vaccination feel harder than it should be.

Paper consent forms.
Families who need follow-up.
Residents on social leave, in hospital, or unavailable on clinic day.
Manual spreadsheets.
Emails back and forth.
Vaccinations recorded in one place and clinical notes in another.

Nothing is connected.

Before The Vaccination Hub steps in, teams are usually overwhelmed by the operational burden.

They don’t struggle with running a clinic.

They are struggling to coordinate an ongoing immunisation program across multiple residents, staff, sites, consent pathways, and reporting requirements.

The problem is: It becomes reactive instead of planned.

The biggest pressure that gets lifted is the cognitive load.

Suddenly there is one system, one workflow, and one source of truth.

No more chasing paper.
No more wondering who was missed.
No more manual reconciliation.

Just visibility, coordination, and confidence that every resident who needs protection is being followed through.

How Anti-Vaccine Influencers Observe Autism Acceptance Month | George Niles Mekeel | Hésitations Vaccinales: Observatoire HESIVAXs | Scoop.it
Can you guess how anti-vaccine influencers observe Autism Acceptance Month?

Yep, the same misinformation, propaganda, and ableist messaging about autism that they spew every other month of the year.

But, during Autism Acceptance Month, it all gets worse.

Much worse.

How Anti-Vaccine Influencers Observe Autism Acceptance Month.

They seem to hate the idea that anyone would want to accept children and adults who are autistic.

“Look past all that garbage foisted onto you by those who neither know nor truly respect autism and autistic people, and you will see that what we need from you most is not a month set aside for the purposes of degrading and pitying our existences and experiences, but constant, unwavering support, the patience to listen to our side of the story, and the power for you to put aside your own ideas about who should be listened to, based on what credentials, and to give those of us with the disability as a constant presence in our lives a chance to speak. Just because someone can’t talk (in your language of words and verbal dialogue) doesn’t mean they have nothing to say.”

Autism Acceptance for Autism Awareness Month.

Not even for one month can they stop posting misinformation about autism and vaccines.

Glimpse: This review investigates humor's place in inoculation theory and how it can strengthen defenses against persuasive attacks in communication and medical settings. The article emphasizes humor as a potential adjuvant in developing attitude resilience, tracing its origins from McGuire's 1964 work to modern gamified interventions against disinformation. In addition to outlining promising paths for future theoretical advancement and real-world applications in attitude and misinformation resistance, it summarizes recent research on the subject.

Kennedy’s Vaccine Agenda Hits Roadblocks, Diminishing His Clout | Dorit Reiss

Kennedy’s Vaccine Agenda Hits Roadblocks, Diminishing His Clout | Dorit Reiss | Hésitations Vaccinales: Observatoire HESIVAXs | Scoop.it
"Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s crusade to scale back Americans’ reliance on vaccines has collided with political and legal realities that have endangered the Senate confirmation of one top health official, delayed the nomination of another and diminished his clout in Washington.

A string of developments over the past several weeks have put Mr. Kennedy’s vaccine agenda at risk. The confirmation of Dr. Casey Means, President Trump’s nominee for surgeon general, is stalled on Capitol Hill, where three Republicans on the Senate Health Committee, including its chairman, have expressed concern about her views on vaccines.

On Thursday, Mr. Trump missed a deadline to nominate a permanent director for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, leaving the agency officially leaderless. The White House is trying to find someone who fits with Mr. Kennedy’s broader health agenda but whose views of vaccines are conventional enough to win Senate confirmation.

Last week, a federal judge blocked Mr. Kennedy’s changes to the childhood vaccine schedule. And on Wednesday, Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, who is running the C.D.C. even though his time as acting director has expired, made the new normal clear."

Vaccination Linked to Increased Chronic Health Conditions in Children | Jason Howard posted on the topic | Hésitations Vaccinales: Observatoire HESIVAXs | Scoop.it
Impact of Childhood Vaccination on Short and Long-Term Chronic Health Outcomes in Children: A Birth Cohort Study
“This study found that exposure to vaccination was independently associated with an overall 2.5-fold increase in the likelihood of developing a chronic health condition, when compared to children unexposed to vaccination. This association was primarily driven by asthma, atopic disease, eczema, autoimmune disease and neurodevelopmental disorders. This suggests that in certain children, exposure to vaccination may increase the likelihood of developing a chronic health condition, particularly for one of
these conditions.”

"Looking for a Pediatrician Who Doesn’t Push Vaccines” | Dorit Reiss

"Looking for a Pediatrician Who Doesn’t Push Vaccines” | Dorit Reiss | Hésitations Vaccinales: Observatoire HESIVAXs | Scoop.it
A tricky issue.

"This is a genuine debate within medicine, too. The New England Journal of Medicine published a clinical decisions piece presenting two expert perspectives on this exact scenario. One argued that pediatricians should accept unvaccinated patients and work to build trust over time, because vaccine refusal is a modifiable behavior and the relationship itself is the most powerful tool a doctor has. The other argued that declining is ethical, primarily because of the obligation to protect vulnerable patients already in the practice from diseases like measles, which can easily spread through a waiting room. Neither position was labeled right or wrong. Both sides believe they are doing what is best for their patients. That’s an important thing for families to understand. This isn’t a coordinated agenda. It’s clinicians navigating a genuinely difficult decision, and reasonable doctors land in different places.

I (Dr. Higgins) have come full circle on this question myself. I have practiced in settings that dismissed families who refused vaccines, and in practices that chose not to. Over time, I’ve come to believe that preserving the relationship is usually the better path. Not dismissing families over vaccine decisions gives me the best opportunity to protect that child’s health over time. But I also understand why thoughtful colleagues, motivated by a duty to protect medically vulnerable patients, may reach different conclusions.

When a family does leave a practice, they aren’t left without options. Federally Qualified Health Centers, community health centers, and local health departments can provide pediatric care regardless of vaccination status. But access to these alternatives varies greatly by community, and for some families, finding a new health care team can be quite difficult. This reality can get lost when this is framed simply as a matter of parental choice."

How Philly's leading vaccine doctor became MAHA's public enemy number one...
Gilbert C FAURE's insight:

Anti-vaxxers, as Offit points out, have been around as long as there have been vaccines, starting in 1796 when English physician Edward Jenner created the first inoculation against smallpox, which even pitted pro-vax Benjamin Franklin against his older brother in Boston. But Offit attributes the modern anti-vax movement to a 1982 TV documentary called DPT: Vaccine Roulette, which Offit says showed children “with withered arms and legs, drooling, seizing, looking vacantly at the sky, with bicycle helmets, and the parents all said the same thing: My child was fine. They got the whooping cough vaccine, and now look at them.”

What is the economic case for expanding immunization across the life course in Thailand?

Despite strong childhood immunization performance, in Thailand many adolescents and adults remain unprotected—leading to preventable illness, economic losses, and increasing strain on the health system.

This new analysis by ThinkWell highlights how life-course immunization can address Thailand’s aging population, rising healthcare costs, and persistent gaps in adult vaccination.

Key findings:
📊 Nearly 30% of Thailand’s population will be over 65 by 2050
💉 Influenza vaccination coverage among older adults remains at just 47%
💰 Expanding influenza coverage to 80% could save THB 1.4 billion annually
🫁 Pneumococcal vaccines can cut pneumonia cases by ~90%, reducing costly hospitalizations
🎗️ HPV vaccination can reduce cancer burden by over 60% while lowering medical costs by up to THB 676 million
📈 Life-course immunization improves productivity and generates broader economic returns

The Concept of Fake News: The Roles of Falsity, Deception, and Politics (SSRN):

https://lnkd.in/dMyXGxjQ

Glimpse: This study investigates the factors that influence people's perceptions of 'fake news,' comparing source-based deception with falsity. Participants in two preregistered studies (N=1,200) evaluated claims with different levels of source authenticity and truth value. Falsity and source deception both independently raised the number of fake-news classifications, demonstrating that many people do not only associate 'fake news' with lies. Claim tense determined how these factors interacted: past-tense claims were primarily impacted by falsity, while predictive claims amplified the effects. Higher fake-news classifications were predicted by political conservatism; this effect was entirely explained by perceived source reliability, indicating that partisan differences are not the result of different definitions of fake news but rather biased priors.

Social media influencers fuelling ‘violent extremism’, MPs warn (Independent, UK):

Glimpse: A UK parliamentary committee has issued a warning, claiming that platform algorithms and social media influencers are fueling the growth of violent, nihilistic extremism among youth. The report identifies shortcomings in the Online Safety Act and advocates for a cohesive national strategy that incorporates local councils, police, health care, and education. The committee highlights the need for coordinated, national strategies to support at-risk youth, criticizing the current Prevent system as antiquated and inadequately adapted to digital radicalization.

“There is no need for the vaccine because hunger will kill my child before any vaccine-preventable disease does.”

Sabin's Boost Community is made up of immunization professionals in all parts of the world. For member Fri Delphine Chifor, who works in parts of Cameroon where conflict has stripped families of safety, income, and access to basic services, vaccines remain one of the few consistent shields children still have. But getting vaccinated can often seem like a secondary concern as parents grapple with urgent questions of where their children will sleep tonight or how they will find their next meal.

Chifor shares how the Cameroon Baptist Convention Health Services Immunization Program started intentionally shifting the way they engaged with families, addressing what mattered most to them first and offering essential vaccines at the same time.

The impact was immediate — not only did they vaccinate more than 163,000 children in less than a year, but they also screened thousands for malnutrition, gave away mosquito nets and medications, and provided more than 13,000 caregivers with nutrition and vaccine education.
