Measles outbreak in Bangladesh has escalated rapidly, raising serious concern among health experts as infections continue to climb sharply this year compared to 2025.
Health authorities report that at least 38 children have died, with warnings that the number could rise further if the outbreak is not brought under control. Hospitals are also reporting a growing number of cases within a short period, putting added pressure on the healthcare system.
Experts say the surge is being driven by delays in routine vaccination and gaps in immunization coverage, with nearly 500,000 children still missing full protection. Because measles is extremely contagious and requires about 95% vaccination coverage to prevent spread, even small disruptions can quickly lead to large outbreaks.
The situation reflects a wider global concern, as several countries including the U.K and U.S are now seeing a resurgence of measles following setbacks in vaccination programs in recent years.

Impact of Childhood Vaccination on Short and Long-Term Chronic Health Outcomes in Children: A Birth Cohort Study “This study found that exposure to vaccination was independently associated with an overall 2.5-fold increase in the likelihood of developing a chronic health condition, when compared to children unexposed to vaccination. This association was primarily driven by asthma, atopic disease, eczema, autoimmune disease and neurodevelopmental disorders. This suggests that in certain children, exposure to vaccination may increase the likelihood of developing a chronic health condition, particularly for one of these conditions.”

A tricky issue.
"This is a genuine debate within medicine, too. The New England Journal of Medicine published a clinical decisions piece presenting two expert perspectives on this exact scenario. One argued that pediatricians should accept unvaccinated patients and work to build trust over time, because vaccine refusal is a modifiable behavior and the relationship itself is the most powerful tool a doctor has. The other argued that declining is ethical, primarily because of the obligation to protect vulnerable patients already in the practice from diseases like measles, which can easily spread through a waiting room. Neither position was labeled right or wrong. Both sides believe they are doing what is best for their patients. That’s an important thing for families to understand. This isn’t a coordinated agenda. It’s clinicians navigating a genuinely difficult decision, and reasonable doctors land in different places.
I (Dr. Higgins) have come full circle on this question myself. I have practiced in settings that dismissed families who refused vaccines, and in practices that chose not to. Over time, I’ve come to believe that preserving the relationship is usually the better path. Not dismissing families over vaccine decisions gives me the best opportunity to protect that child’s health over time. But I also understand why thoughtful colleagues, motivated by a duty to protect medically vulnerable patients, may reach different conclusions.
When a family does leave a practice, they aren’t left without options. Federally Qualified Health Centers, community health centers, and local health departments can provide pediatric care regardless of vaccination status. But access to these alternatives varies greatly by community, and for some families, finding a new health care team can be quite difficult. This reality can get lost when this is framed simply as a matter of parental choice."

What is the economic case for expanding immunization across the life course in Thailand?
Despite strong childhood immunization performance, in Thailand many adolescents and adults remain unprotected—leading to preventable illness, economic losses, and increasing strain on the health system.
This new analysis by ThinkWell highlights how life-course immunization can address Thailand’s aging population, rising healthcare costs, and persistent gaps in adult vaccination.
Key findings: 📊 Nearly 30% of Thailand’s population will be over 65 by 2050 💉 Influenza vaccination coverage among older adults remains at just 47% 💰 Expanding influenza coverage to 80% could save THB 1.4 billion annually 🫁 Pneumococcal vaccines can cut pneumonia cases by ~90%, reducing costly hospitalizations 🎗️ HPV vaccination can reduce cancer burden by over 60% while lowering medical costs by up to THB 676 million 📈 Life-course immunization improves productivity and generates broader economic returns

The Concept of Fake News: The Roles of Falsity, Deception, and Politics (SSRN):
https://lnkd.in/dMyXGxjQ
Glimpse: This study investigates the factors that influence people's perceptions of 'fake news,' comparing source-based deception with falsity. Participants in two preregistered studies (N=1,200) evaluated claims with different levels of source authenticity and truth value. Falsity and source deception both independently raised the number of fake-news classifications, demonstrating that many people do not only associate 'fake news' with lies. Claim tense determined how these factors interacted: past-tense claims were primarily impacted by falsity, while predictive claims amplified the effects. Higher fake-news classifications were predicted by political conservatism; this effect was entirely explained by perceived source reliability, indicating that partisan differences are not the result of different definitions of fake news but rather biased priors.

Tokyo Metropolitan Government launches a child vaccination portal for families 🧒💉 For Tokyo families, timely vaccine information can help prevent severe illness. As of March 27, parents can check routine vaccinations by age and local subsidy information in one place.
[My take] (context, not an official view): Vaccines help the body build immunity, and since Edward Jenner’s 1796 smallpox work, they have spread worldwide. They helped bring diseases such as rabies, diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, tuberculosis, and polio under control, and smallpox was ultimately eradicated. Vaccine hesitancy has existed since Jenner’s time and still survives in new forms online. Appropriate vaccination remains important for protecting children, adults, and communities through herd immunity. This is a reminder that trusted public communication matters as much as funding.
[Press Release Summary] TMG launched a child vaccination portal with practical guidance for families. The site organizes routine vaccines by age and explains their purpose. It includes local subsidy information provided through wards and municipalities. Parents and family members can use it for eligible children. Coverage starts at two months, and the portal opened March 27, 2026.
What about your city? Does it offer one clear vaccine portal for families? Pick one: yes / partly / no — and how does it compare with Tokyo’s approach? Share one practice your city uses to improve vaccine awareness and access.

🚨 New publication 🚨 Economic evaluation of national immunization program vaccines in China: a systematic review
A new systematic review led by Harbin Medical University and China National Health Development Research Center analyses 41 studies on vaccines in China’s national immunization program.
The takeaway: vaccines are not just life-saving—they are consistently highly cost-effective investments.
What stands out: 📊 Every study confirms vaccines are cost-effective vs no vaccination 💰 Some vaccines (like hepatitis B) show exceptionally high economic returns 🌍 Strong value across multiple vaccines and settings ⚠️ Significant variation in methods highlights the need for better standardisation 📉 GDP-based thresholds may not reflect real-world resource trade-offs

Most aged care providers running vaccination systems struggle with coordination.
In my experience, the challenge isn’t willingness.
It’s everything around the clinic that makes vaccination feel harder than it should be.
Paper consent forms. Families who need follow-up. Residents on social leave, in hospital, or unavailable on clinic day. Manual spreadsheets. Emails back and forth. Vaccinations recorded in one place and clinical notes in another.
Nothing is connected.
Before The Vaccination Hub steps in, teams are usually overwhelmed by the operational burden.
They don’t struggle with running a clinic.
They are struggling to coordinate an ongoing immunisation program across multiple residents, staff, sites, consent pathways, and reporting requirements.
The problem is: It becomes reactive instead of planned.
The biggest pressure that gets lifted is the cognitive load.
Suddenly there is one system, one workflow, and one source of truth.
No more chasing paper. No more wondering who was missed. No more manual reconciliation.
Just visibility, coordination, and confidence that every resident who needs protection is being followed through.

Can you guess how anti-vaccine influencers observe Autism Acceptance Month?
Yep, the same misinformation, propaganda, and ableist messaging about autism that they spew every other month of the year.
But, during Autism Acceptance Month, it all gets worse.
Much worse.
How Anti-Vaccine Influencers Observe Autism Acceptance Month.
They seem to hate the idea that anyone would want to accept children and adults who are autistic.
“Look past all that garbage foisted onto you by those who neither know nor truly respect autism and autistic people, and you will see that what we need from you most is not a month set aside for the purposes of degrading and pitying our existences and experiences, but constant, unwavering support, the patience to listen to our side of the story, and the power for you to put aside your own ideas about who should be listened to, based on what credentials, and to give those of us with the disability as a constant presence in our lives a chance to speak. Just because someone can’t talk (in your language of words and verbal dialogue) doesn’t mean they have nothing to say.”
Autism Acceptance for Autism Awareness Month.
Not even for one month can they stop posting misinformation about autism and vaccines.

Glimpse: This review investigates humor's place in inoculation theory and how it can strengthen defenses against persuasive attacks in communication and medical settings. The article emphasizes humor as a potential adjuvant in developing attitude resilience, tracing its origins from McGuire's 1964 work to modern gamified interventions against disinformation.
