🔎📰 SUMMERTIME calls for some easy reading. I guess The Non-Specific Vaccine Effects Journal Club hardly qualifies as that – except perhaps this time it does😉
In this 30th issue I invite you to reflect on what seems to be the most obvious blind spot in the scientific community that has if not endorsed - at least accepted the concept of non-specific vaccine effects (NSE) for decades.
Here's some serious party spoiling: NSE is as evidence based as bloodletting, hysterectomy for depression, and a more recent example hydroxychloroquine for the treatment of Covid infections.
Notably, all of the above managed at varying extent to gain scientific attention and even acceptance.
The anatomy of collective deception 🤥 is the topic of this summer edition of the JC, where we will dig into why NSE is a biological impossibility.
Readers who are unfamiliar with the lingo used here are invited to visit this brief vocabulary and reading guidance: https://lnkd.in/dyFaQQHG
Housekeeping rules to the Nonspecific Vaccine Effects Journal Club: · You are welcome to comment, share reflections, or ask questions · The content focuses on the ball (the publications) – not the players (the authors), hence irrelevant comments will be deleted Happy reading 🔎 📰 #NSEvaccNeverReplicated #NSEvaccJournalClub #ScientificIntegrity #Vaccines

Many of the most significant vaccination challenges of the last decade have shared a common lesson. The science worked. What surrounded it often did not.
That is the central premise of our new edited volume, 'Socio-Technological Relationships in Vaccine Systems', which I had the pleasure of co-editing with Omkar Nadh.
Over the past two years, colleagues from law, public health, science and technology studies, and other disciplines have worked together to examine how vaccine systems actually function.
Rather than viewing vaccination as a simple journey from discovery to delivery, the book explores the complex relationships among governance, financing, regulation, institutions, trust and power that determine whether vaccines reach the people who need them.
I am delighted to see the book now in print and grateful to the outstanding contributors whose expertise made this interdisciplinary project possible. Dianne Nicol,Pratap Devarapalli PhD, Dr Laura Ferris, @Matthew Hornsey, Shruti Acharya, @Sanjay Dhir, @Thomas Aechtner, Kunle Ola, @Sunil Venaik, Maurizia Mezza,Mahendra Shahare,Prashant Reddy Thikkavarapu, Fernandos Ongolly (PhD), Chimdessa Fekadu Tsega, PhD .
For researchers, policymakers and practitioners working on vaccine governance, health innovation and equitable access, I hope this book offers new perspectives and valuable insights. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/g_myfteD

🇺🇸 "Of those 329 US Nobel laureates, 118 (36%) were born outside of the USA. Many emigrated as refugees fleeing violence and persecution. Albert Sabin, inventor of the live-attenuated oral polio vaccine, arrived in the USA at age 15 years after antisemitic pogroms forced his family to leave their native Poland. Jonas Salk's mother, to whom he credited his interest in medicine that led to development of the first inactivated injectable polio vaccine, was able to follow her sister to the USA at age 12 years thanks to family reunification policies..." https://lnkd.in/gqkPfjH3

There’s a lot of information about childhood #vaccines online, and it can be challenging for parents to know which sources to trust.
To help Chinese-speaking families make informed decisions about immunisation, National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance (NCIRS) expert Dr Lucy Deng answers some of the most common questions about childhood immunisation in #Cantonese, including:
❓Why are childhood vaccines important? ❓Why is it important to vaccinate on time? ❓Where can families find reliable, evidence-based information?
🎥 Watch Dr Deng’s video: https://lnkd.in/grCfv9Ed
This video is part of a series developed by the Australian Government Department of Health, Disability and Ageing, which provides translated #immunisation resources to help culturally and linguistically diverse communities access trusted health information.

What does it take to prove that a vaccine works?
In 1954, over 1.8 million children participated in what became the largest clinical trial in history. The results changed public health forever.
The story of the polio vaccine isn't just about scientific discovery—it's about rigorous research, ethical clinical trials, and the power of evidence to transform lives.
As someone passionate about clinical research and public health, I find these landmark studies incredibly inspiring. They remind us that every breakthrough we rely on today is built on years of careful research and the willingness of countless individuals to contribute to science.
This reel is part of my series exploring the pivotal studies and discoveries that have shaped modern medicine.
I'd love to hear: Which landmark medical study or breakthrough do you think every healthcare professional should know about?

Yes, this graphic is a little cheeky. But the reality behind it is our whole "why."
The internet is a double-edged sword. It connects us and lets good information travel fast, but it's also become a superspreader of bad information. And bad information has consequences, especially when it comes to your health.
You've probably heard "do your own research." It's a tricky phrase, because there are real limits to what any of us can evaluate outside our own training, and that's true for everyone (including us). But the reality is we're all online consuming information, and most of us are going to look things up. So instead of telling you not to, we want to be a resource that supports that curiosity with the best available evidence.
If you're here, thank you. We want this to be a space where you can ask about anything, including the claims you've seen circulating online. Our goal is to help you sort the true from the false and make the decisions that are right for you and your family.
If you’d like to support this work, please consider a tax-deductible donation to The Center for Unbiased Science and Health (CUSH), our nonprofit that funds educational initiatives like this one: https://lnkd.in/eajKPGUD
PS: before you come at us: this is NOT AI. Our amazing graphic designer Derek made it by hand using the pixelate features in Photoshop and Canva. The Oregon Trail nostalgia is fully human.

Happy to conclude another online Vaccinology Course, this time with a strong emphasis on the One Health perspective, bringing together more than 70 participants from Asia, Africa, and Oceania.
Interestingly, most attendees were not physicians, further highlighting the inherently multidisciplinary nature of vaccines, vaccinology, and vaccination, and their relevance far beyond clinical medicine.
From public health and veterinary sciences to environmental health, policy, and community engagement, the future of vaccinology depends on collaboration across disciplines.
Proud to see Think Vaccines® working in alignment with the current needs of our planet and contributing to the advancement of a truly global and interconnected vision of health.

A comprehensive review found that mRNA vaccines — a popular target of viral vaccine conspiracy theories and medical misinformation in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic — are a resoundingly safe and effective feat of modern medicine.
Published this week in the journal The Lancet, the review confirmed that mRNA vaccines are robustly effective at preventing the spread of infectious diseases like COVID, and show incredible promise for treating diseases like cancer as well. It was conducted by an international team of researchers based in Canada, Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, and the United States, and took the drug’s manufacturing, clinical trials, and data from billions of real-world vaccinations into account.

"On June 30, 2026, a panel of the Second Circuit Court of Appeals once again rejected a case brought by Amish schools and Amish parents who argued that New York’s refusal to allow them a religious exemption violated their freedom of religion. The decision was a result of the Supreme Court sending the case back for reconsideration in light of a recent decision, and the 2nd Circuit panel decided that the recent decision did not change the result. This post explains the case. ... Plaintiffs’ argument here is that if parents have a right to direct the religious upbringing of their children, they can decide not to vaccinate if they have religious opposition to vaccines. I hope it’s obvious to readers that this is a problematic comparison. Objecting to the content of the curriculum is not the same as objecting to health and safety rules like a vaccination requirement – what if the parents argue that a child’s religion requires bringing a sword to school and killing anyone who disagrees religiously? But that’s the plaintiff’s argument, and observers – including well-informed observers – saw it as a warning sign that the Supreme Court may require religious exemptions from school mandates. If so, the Second Circuit did not take the hint, and it doubled down, essentially telling the Supreme Court that if it wants to overturn decades of precedent that do not require religious exemptions from vaccine mandates, it will have to do the dirty work itself. ... I think there is a good chance the plaintiffs will appeal to the Supreme Court. What then? First, I’m not sure the Court will want to take the case. The Court has been avoiding vaccine mandate cases, and as far as I know, has not taken up a school mandate case since Zucht v. King in 1922.
And if it takes it? First, I will point out that there are very smart people who think the Court would find for the plaintiffs and require a religious exemption. Me? I think it’s a toss-up. The grant, vacate, and remand suggested the Supreme Court thinks there might be something there. But if the Court was sure, it could have decided the case directly, as it did other cases. The GVR suggests to me that the Court did want the benefit of more examination.
This does not mean the Court will not overturn the 2nd Circuit on remand. But requiring a religious exemption from a school mandate is a big, big change, going against decades of precedent. The Court has certainly done it, and might again. But it’s not clear that it will. By my count, we have three justices for requiring religious exemptions: Justices Alito, Thomas, and Gorsuch have expressed their views that way.
We have three justices clearly against requiring it: Justices Sotomayor, Kagan, and Jackson.
So the question is which way will Justices Barrett, Kavanaugh, and Chief Justice Roberts fall."

RESILIENCE: PUBLIC HEALTH´S MOST POWERFUL MEDICINE
Albert Sabin's story did not begin in a laboratory.
It began with resilience.
Born to a Jewish family that left Europe during a period of growing persecution, Sabin's future might never have existed had his family chosen to surrender to circumstances.
Years later, as a scientist, he pursued a different path from Jonas Salk in the fight against polio.
Salk developed an injectable vaccine based on an inactivated virus.
Sabin believed that an oral vaccine based on an attenuated virus could play a critical role in large-scale immunization campaigns.
Science advanced because both approaches were explored.
But the road was not simple.
Sabin spent years researching, testing, refining, and defending his ideas. When large-scale testing did not move forward in the United States, studies involving millions of children were eventually conducted elsewhere, including the Soviet Union.
The results helped transform the global fight against one of the most feared diseases of the twentieth century.
Sometimes I wonder:
What if his family had given up?
What if he had abandoned his hypothesis at the first obstacle?
What if he had accepted that the door was closed?
Innovation is rarely a straight line.
It is often the product of people who continue moving forward when uncertainty, criticism, and setbacks suggest they should stop.
Not every unconventional idea will prove correct.
But no unconventional idea will ever prove its value if it is abandoned before it is tested.
Before vaccines, before clinical trials, before scientific breakthroughs, there was something else:
Resilience.
And perhaps it remains public health's most powerful medicine.
