Modern leadership: why a responsive management style is the future

Modern leadership: why a responsive management style is the future | E-Learning-Inclusivo (Mashup) | Scoop.it

In today’s ever-changing business environment, there isn’t one management style or technique that works all the time – what’s required is a responsive approach to stay ahead.

Jerry Busone's curator insight, July 25, 2018 8:09 AM

This is just the merge of the digital workforce and the tried and true leader styles. Engaging your people is about connecting  through not only face to face but remotely and through social media . Things can just be done faster... and new leaders grow into that style along with other leader skills.

Working with your Leadership Vision

Working with your Leadership Vision   | E-Learning-Inclusivo (Mashup) | Scoop.it

A vision is your overview of the way things could be.  It is your clear image of what you are working towards.  In your role as a leader, you can see how things could be improved and made better.  Putting all these pieces together in a format of how things should be will give you your overall leadership vision that helps you to get your ideas across powerfully, accurately, and quickly.  Once you have a vision, you tell people about it and use it to lead people.

Daniel Tremblay's curator insight, March 16, 2017 8:14 AM
"Effectively communicating the vision means living the vision; that means doing what you say and practicing what you preach."

One thing is not clearly stated in the article.  The vision has to be communicated with our heart and soul; not only with our head.  As en employee, we must FEEL that the vision is sincere, genuine, authentic, ...  We must BELIEVE in what the leader says (and not only understand what he is saying).  Without the personnal involvement from the leader, the vision communicated may remain only bla bla bla.

Combien de fois voyons-nous des situations où les "bottines ne suivent pas les babines"...  Ou qu'on ne sent pas l'authenticité derrière le message...

Is Managing the same as Leading? Leadership Styles…… by @Migue_Moline

Is Managing the same as Leading? Leadership Styles…… by @Migue_Moline | E-Learning-Inclusivo (Mashup) | Scoop.it
I have recently attended a very interesting meeting with pretty nice managers from a great Finnish company, where I was asked about this piece of discussion. Because we had more subjects to talk, I have the feeling I likely didn't explain my point of view as properly as I would have liked.

And as I think this subject is of general interest and deserves to be shared with all of you, let me explain how I see the difference between management and leading in an easy way, so that it will be easily understood.

#HR 5 Signs That You've Fallen Into The Trap Of Parent-Child #Leadership

#HR 5 Signs That You've Fallen Into The Trap Of Parent-Child #Leadership | E-Learning-Inclusivo (Mashup) | Scoop.it
Today’s managers talk a lot about wanting employees to be more accountable and to act on their own initiative. And yet, those same managers turn around and say to employees: “I have to give you assignments; I have to give you feedback; I have to hold you accountable.” This leaves employees, much like children, left to take feedback, to take assignments and to passively wait to be held accountable.

Today’s top-performing organizations are leaving this style of Parent-Child leadership behind and replacing it with a new model of leadership that treats employees like adults who have unlimited potential and who deserve the opportunity to take control of their own futures. Establishing an Adult-to-Adult dynamic encourages employees to become self-leading and self-sufficient and results in a more motivated, fulfilled and energized workforce. Employees are more aligned with their organization’s vision and more committed to helping the organization achieve that vision.

Leadership styles in education – The Seven Secrets to New Age Leadership | #Business #CHANGE #LEARNing2LEARN | E-Learning-Inclusivo (Mashup) | Scoop.it
The architect leader knows that the ability to create a nourishing and challenging environment for people to grow in is more important than any technical skill she can possess.

Continuous Improvement – The leader of tomorrow will regularly challenge old beliefs and be passionate about learning and about applying that learning in the real world. She will often ask my favorite question “Who is doing something differently then I am and what can I learn from them?”

The New Leader is Authentic. How and who you are is just as important as what you know! Hold yourself to the highest standards – don’t talk the talk unless you are prepared to walk the walk. Don’t expect of others what you don’t expect from your self. Be real, tell the truth. The leaders that are the most revered are those that let the light of who they are shine through in all they do. They are honest, forthright and clear.

Coach/Facilitator – A leader needs to be a coach not a commander. He needs to hold space open for things to happen. It is said that when leaders do their job properly people believe they have done it themselves. Leaders are there to help people see things from a different perspective, to provide questions that encourage learning and to help turn work experiences into learning experiences.

Our new leader is a Visionary. It’s clearly documented that visionary leaders are successful at mobilizing human potential. A vision provides focus. It’s a tool for aligning energy. Clear vision and purpose provide people with a framework from which to make decisions, it organizes action and effort.

TEACHER LEADERSHIP & DEEPER LEARNING FOR ALL STUDENTS

In this new paper commissioned by the Ford Foundation, Barnett Berry makes the case for how a system of teacher leadership and learning can fuel deeper learning for all students.

Here is what the paper tackles:

examines current reforms’ limitations and notes some promising emergent examples, (like Social Justice Humanitas Academy in LAUSD); summarizes 30 years of research about how teachers learn and lead (also drawing on stories of teachers CTQ has worked with since our founding in 1998); identifies three promising shifts that could be leveraged to create an effective system of teacher leadership and learning; and
describes next steps that stakeholders (including policymakers, USDOE, state education leaders, superintendents, and others) can take to advance teacher leadership toward a more equitable public education system.

The infographic below reveals 3 big changes we can leverage now to improve public education for all students.

Understanding VUCA and how it is used as a framework to help leaders navigate the modern world.

The term VUCA, an acronym of Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous was originated by the American military to describe extreme conditions during warfare. VUCA has more recently been adopted by an increasing number of CEO’s and organizations as a framework to approach different types of challenging situations bought about due to external factors such as politics, economics, society, advancing technology and the environment. To provide insight on the relevance of VUCA for today’s leaders, and to highlight the importance of having the ability, skills and mindset to lead in VUCA world, this blog piece aims to provide an understanding of the term, by providing examples of each element.

As with most new roles in different industries, I was welcomed with a whole host of new acronyms to learn and understand. An acronym frequently used is VUCA, a term I was not familiar with. A VUCA world is pivotal to program design at Emerging World, it is used to help leaders and organizations understand the world in which their business operates. In this blog, I share my learnings and understanding of VUCA.

  • Be the thing you teach.
  • Be the expert of your classroom.
  •  Be data savvy.
  • Be continually reflective on your practice.
  • Be able to defend your practice.
This directive is similar to the data-savvy and expert points, but teacher leaders need to be able to explain their craft. Your administrator will be trotting all kinds of people through your classroom.  As a teacher leader, you might be a maverick, doing things a little differently than the rest of the herd. Be prepared to defend that road less traveled.  Know why you do the things you do.  Then, as a leader, share everything you know.
