Conocé el poema en latín que nadie se animó a traducir en 20 siglos - EL INTRANSIGENTE . COMCayo Valerio Catulo (siglo I a.C.) fue un poeta de la época republicana. Las obras que se conservan de Catulo son 116 poesías, en las que se mezclan poemas líricos, poesías amorosas, otras dirigidas a amigos o enemigos, improvisaciones ingeniosas, anécdotas, sátiras y… un poema que nadie se atrevió a traducir en 20 siglos. El poema en cuestión es Carmen 16: escrito en endecasílabos (11 sílabas) y como respuesta a las críticas de Furio y Aurelio que consideraban su poesía muy blanda, propia de una nenita.

Translation workshop held « Translation at AstonThe Translation Studies section and the Institute for Translation and Interpreting (ITI) held the annual ITI translation workshop on Saturday, 15 October 2011. This whole day event brought about 70 professional translators to Aston to practise their translation skills in several language groups. This event was also be an opportunity for Aston’s postgraduate translation students to team up with professional translators. Two of the current Master students won the first and second prize at the Raffle – free subscription to an online dictionary. Congratulations to Lea and Stephanie.

Alaska Top Blogs » Talking Alaska » The future of language documentation » Public Blog Aggregator of Alaska (AK)For the past decade or so the Volkswagen Foundation has been supporting language documentation work through the Documentation of Endangered Languages program (known by its German acronym DoBeS). This program has been at forefront of language documentation efforts internationally, being among the first such programs to think carefully about just what it means to document a language. Uniquely, rather than focus on creating traditional documentation products such as dictionaries and grammars, the DoBeS project has focused on creating a large body of transcribed video recordings documenting natural language use. Working in collaboration with Native speaker communities DoBeS teams have built up a vast archive of recordings for about 50 different endangered languages across the world. Unfortunately, Alaskan languages has not been the focus of any DoBeS project, in part because Alaskan languages are too endangered. That is, DoBeS prefers to focus on languages which, though endangered, still have a fairly active speech community with children still learning the languages.

Et lors de la relecture, les remarques concernent quasiment toujours le style, plus que l’exactitude de la traduction. De fait, la frontière est parfois mince entre traduction et « écriture dirigée », et les qualités demandées aux traducteurs littéraires sont très différentes de ce que l’on voit d’habitude : la maitrise de différents styles d’écriture est un énorme avantage. Plus que des traducteurs, ce sont surtout des écrivains ayant une bonne compréhension
