No sooner did I express my hope yesterday that "moving forward, tobacco control advocates and scientists will be able to engage in a discussion of this issue that is based on science, rather than ideology" then yet another electronic cigarette opponent - again a physician - fabricated information to deter smokers from using these products. Researchers have long been aware that fewer smokers get Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases than non-smokers.Up to April l992, of the 17 studies on Alzheimer's and smoking which had been published in peer-reviewed journals, 13 reported a reduced risk for smokers and only four found no difference between smokers and non-smokers.Similar findings have been published on the effect of smoking and Parkinson's disease.

Few hours ago, a story about the death of a 2 year-old child from acute nicotine intoxication has been reported. The report of an Israeli newspaper states that the child ingested e-liquid, and that this was the cause of death. As expected, this report generated a lot of concern in the vaping community.
In case the story is true, I think it is something that most of us were sure it would happen. Don’t we know that nicotine is toxic? Don’t we know that each e-liquid bottle has enough nicotine to kill more than one adult, let alone a child? Via GolfKahn

A new study is currently underway, evaluating the cytotoxic potential of electronic cigarette vapor on cultured heart cells.
