September 17 – FIFA has allocated $355 million to clubs releasing players for the 2026 World Cup and for the first time will pay clubs for releasing players for World Cup qualifiers.
For the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, FIFA distributed $209 million amongst 440 clubs for players released to the 32 competing nations.

July 28 – FIFA has returned fire in its war against players’ union FIFPro criticising what it says is the “increasingly divisive and contradictory tone adopted by FIFPRO leadership”. While calling for a return to the negotiating table, the FIFA statement will likely only escalate the conflict – perhaps the statement’s only objective as FIFA bids to break the unions.

August 29 – Germany, Poland, Portugal and the Nordic pair of Denmark and Sweden will bid for Euro 2029, European governing body UEFA confirmed today. 
In a brief statement, UEFA said: “Bid dossiers were submitted by the football associations of Denmark and Sweden (a joint bid), Germany, Poland and Portugal. UEFA also received confirmation from the football association of Italy that it has withdrawn its candidacy.”
