May 5 – A month out from kick-off, fans in the two most populous countries on earth still don’t know if they will be able to watch the World Cup. 
According to sources cited by Reuters, broadcast rights deals for India and China remain unresolved. In India, a Reliance-Disney joint venture has offered $20 million. FIFA initially asked for $100 million covering the 2026 and 2030 tournaments, then dropped its number significantly.

July 22 – With 50 days left until kickoff, FIFA is launching another last-minute tickets sales phase for the 2026 World Cup on Wednesday.
FIFA said new World Cup tickets will be released to the general audience with all 104 matches available on sale on a first-come, first-serve basis. The world governing body will keep releasing tickets until July 19, the day of the World Cup final at MetLifeStadium in New Jersey. 
Zurich said that it has sold more than 5 million tickets to date.

May 28 – The attorneys general of New York and New Jersey have subpoenaed FIFA over its 2026 World Cup ticketing practices. With ticket prices ranging all the way from $60 to $32,790, this summer’s super-sized 48-team World Cup will be the most expensive in history, but New Jersey Attorney General Jennifer Davenport and New York counterpart Letitia James have joined forced to investigate FIFA’s ticketing practices following reports that fans may have been misled about the location of the seats they purchased.

May 6 – The receipts are starting to land on this World Cup, and they tell a clear and uncomfortable story.
Nearly 80% of hotel operators across nine of the 11 US host cities report bookings “running well behind early projections,” according to the latest American Hotel & Lodging Association outlook published this week.
FIFA has cancelled or released around 70% of its room blocks, flooding inventory back into local markets and triggering cancellations of up to 95% of contracted rooms in some cities.

April 27 –  FIFA is set to increase prize money and participation payments for the 2026 World Cup, with final figures expected to be signed off by the FIFA Council at its meeting in Vancouver this week ahead of the FIFA Congress on Thursday February 28.
FIFA had already announced a record prize pot of $727 million last December, with each of the 48 teams guaranteed at least $10.5 million and the winners set to receive $50 million.
