December 18 – The FIFA Council has approved a record $655 million prize fund for the 2026 World Cup, a massive 50% increase on Qatar 2022 prize money.
The winners will take home $50 million, runners-up $33 million, third place $29 million, and fourth place $27 million. Even countries that fall at the first hurdle are guaranteed payouts of at least $10.5 million once preparation costs are included.
It sounds like a win-win for all member nations until you place it next to FIFA’s newest flagship event.
