FIFA is suspending further transfers from a World Cup legacy fund to Brazil pending further talks with the Brazilian federation, the CBF. Brazil has only received $8.7 million from the fund 17 months after the most profitable World Cup in history.

December 18 – In an open letter to FIFA president Gianni Infantino, European lawmakers have expressed “grave concern” over the hosting of the 2034 World Cup by Saudi Arabia.
Led by Danish MEP Niels Fuglsang, about 30 members of the European Parliament issued a warning to the football supremo, expressing their “grave concerns regarding the decision to award the 2034 World Cup to Saudi Arabia.” The lawmakers argue that the decision undermined “the principles upon which FIFA was founded.”…

December 17 – Prize money for next summer’s 2025 Women’s European Championship will increase by a whopping 156% compared to the previous edition, with the 16 teams sharing €41 million.
Total prize money available to teams at Euro 2022 was €16 million but this time each federation is guaranteed a minimum of €1.8 million – almost as much as England’s winning-bonus from Euro 2022.

December 2 – FIFA World Cup bid evaluation report has, remarkably, awarded Saudi Arabia’s bid for the 2034 World Cup the joint highest bidding score ever. Human rights groups, however, have slammed FIFA for “whitewashing” the country’s human rights record and called out glossing over environmental concerns.

December 18 – Saudi Arabia has been dry since 1952, and we’re not talking about rain. King Ibn Saud banned alcohol that year, and the chances of football fans being allowed to drink in stadiums during World Cup 2034 are about as strong as Budweiser Zero.
While FIFA have not publicly addressed the issue, senior sources told The Guardian newspaper “there is no question of beer being sold at matches”.

December 5 – On the eve of the draw for the Club World Cup, FIFA at last found a broadcast partner, announcing streaming platform DAZN as the exclusive rights holder for the 32-team tournament in a deal reportedly worth $1 billion.
DAZN will stream, free of charge, all 63 matches of the tournament that the United States will host between 15 June and 13 July 2025.
The London-based streaming platform has the opportunity to sub-license rights to local free-to-air broadcasters.
