Présentation Les objectifs généraux de la Journée européenne des langues sont les suivants : - sensibiliser le public à l'importance de l'apprentissage des langues et de la diversification des langues apprises afin de favoriser le plurilinguisme et la compréhension interculturelle ;
- promouvoir la diversité culturelle et linguistique de l'Europe ;

The Covid-19 pandemic accelerated the implementation of Work From Home (WFH) and Remote Simultaneous Interpretation (RSI) practices to a degree nobody could have imagined before. Today, many conference / simultaneous interpreters are unhappy with the impact that WFH has brought on the interpreting industry. We all remember it very well. When an unknown virus started spreading around the word in the first trimester of 2020, everything changed in our lives: lockdowns were enforced and most people had to stay home. All of the sudden, Work From Home became the norm for a large number of professions – including interpreters. What started as a temporary necessity still remains a reality more than a year after ‘normality’ was finally restored in many parts of the world; now many conference interpreters are revolting against the ‘normalisation’ of remote interpretation as they fear for the future of the profession. So this begs the question: is RSI (Remote Simultaneous Interpreting) really endangering our industry? What’s the future for conference interpreters?

This collection explores the notion of reframing as a framework for better understanding the multi-agent and multi-level nature of the translation process, generating new conversations in current debates on translational agency, authority, and power. The volume puts forward reframing as an alternative metaphor to traditional conceptualizations and descriptions of translation, which often position the process in such terms as transformation, reproduction, transposition, and transfer. You can now attend scheduled Microsoft Teams meetings even if you don’t understand the languages your fellow participants are speaking. The new solution, developed by Microsoft in partnership with the Welsh Government, allows designated interpreters to translate what is being said during a scheduled Teams meeting, and attendees can choose which language they want to listen to, in real-time. They are also able to switch between languages during the meeting. The feature is another addition to Teams’ functionality. It will benefit public bodies and organisations that host scheduled meetings in different, sometimes multiple, languages, ensuring they are inclusive and attendees can understand what is being said. The launch of live human translation between different languages on scheduled Teams calls has been welcomed by the Welsh Government. The Welsh Government’s Chief Digital Officer, Glyn Jones, said the new Teams feature will be crucial for them. “I don’t think you can underestimate the impact this will have on organisations that operate bilingually or multilingually,” he said. “We’ve had really positive feedback from the people who’ve tested it with us. The interpreters and the people listening think it’s great. “Wales is bilingual. We speak Welsh and we speak English. This new functionality will help us use our Welsh more than we’ve been able to during COVID-19. I’m sure we’ll see more people using Welsh in meetings than was ever the case before the pandemic — that’s my ambition.” Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, interpreters spent time and money travelling across Wales to attend meetings and interpret them for anyone in the room listening on headsets. When meetings moved online, some interpreters devised a workaround. They observed a Teams video meeting and provided simultaneous interpretation via a telephone line.
