Dans mon esprit, le chercheur est une sorte de détective pour qui c'est le chemin vers l'information qui importe. Ce qui fait le sel de son activité, c'est l'utilisation des outils de recherche. Les questions qu'on lui soumet sont pour lui autant de prétexte à partir à la recherche d'information. Et au bout du chemin, le chercheur est satisfait quand il a trouvé une réponse acceptable à la question qui lui était soumise. Certains veilleurs compulsifs peuvent être rangés dans cette catégorie dans la mesure où leur objectif serait surtout de mettre en place des systèmes qu ilivrent de l'information, sans trop se soucier de savoir si l'information est utile.
