(International Grain Council) "Global 2024/25 total grains (wheat and coarse grains) production is forecast at 2,315m t. Localised dryness has slightly curbed wheat prospects in Australia and Argentina ahead of the main winter harvest period. Estimates for the EU and Russia are also trimmed but, with offsetting increases elsewhere, including in Kazakhstan (wheat) and Turkey (barley), the world crop estimate is unchanged m/m (month-on-month). Almost entirely tied to an uprated feed use figure, the projection for total consumption is up by 3m t from before, to 2,328m. Taking into account larger than previously estimated opening inventories, the figure for world carryover stocks (aggregate of respective local marketing years) is up by 3m t m/m, to 584m. The outlook for trade is cut by 2m t, to 419m, including smaller import figures for wheat (including for Turkey), maize (China) and barley (China, Iran)."

(Miller Magazine) "Implementation of Turkish wheat import ban on 21 June 2024 was a heavy bearish factor for Black Sea wheat and freight market. Since the end of August wheat prices started recovering on the cuts of wheat crop in the EU (with accent on France) and Russia. In the beginning of September rumours appeared that Türkiye may remove wheat import ban, if local millers to cover 50-70% of their needs from TMO’s stocks. And at the beginning of October the situation became clearer. Do we expect some additional support for Black Sea wheat prices from Turkish regulations? For this question we got comment from Gözde N. Karagöz and Salih Karagöz - Commodity Brokers at Atria Brokers."

(World Grain) "KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI, US — Before Russia invaded Ukraine, triggering a disruption of the global wheat supply and exacerbating the continent’s wheat deficit crisis, Africa’s wheat industry already was battling climate change, unfavorable trade policies, and inadequate investments in the sub-sector. Africa spends up to $75 billion to import an estimated 100 million tonnes of cereals every year, according to the African Development Bank (AfDB). It relies on international wheat markets to meet its consumption requirements as production volumes remain inadequate, but imports remain a challenge as the Russia-Ukraine conflict has disrupted the global supply chain in the world wheat market."

(Reuters) "CAIRO, Oct 4 (Reuters) - Egypt has developed plans to slash wheat imports and spend less on subsidised bread by adding corn or sorghum as ingredients, five industry sources briefed on the plans told Reuters. The proposals could save the government millions of dollars but face opposition from bakers and millers who could lose out financially and argue that bread quality would suffer. Egypt has been grappling with rising debt, foreign currency shortages and persistent inflation. The government says that its bread subsidy programme, which it aims eventually to phase out, is a major strain on the budget."
