A snapshot of classroom-ready 3D printers available for eductors 3d-educationThese days, 3D printing is becoming a staple of the modern classroom, from K-12 to college and university campuses as well. Even as prices dip for some models, educational institutions and districts are also gaining financial support from outside sources for ventures into 3D printing. In fact, from 2011 to 2015, government business intelligence company Onvia awarded $1,809,298 in 3D printer and supply contracts to 44 primary, secondary and higher education institutions and school districts across the United States.

If They Make It, They Will Learn on Tuesday, June 30th from 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM EDT. This is a hands-on, explore and create workshop where we'll engage in a variety of STEM-related and maker activities, such as student-driven robotics, electrical circuitry, appropriate for classroom and library makerspaces. The purpose of the session is to introduce teachers to the concept of the creative classroom and expose you to a variety of creation-based technologies that allow students to explore, create, analyze and even fail, only to rethink and recreate from what they have learned from their mistakes.

Although optical technologies are fairly new to the metrology world, it is a hard fact that they are here to stay. Optical measurement technologies are considered by many quality control and design experts to be the future of dimensional metrology, especially when it comes to industrial applications. Creaform brings 3D measurement optical technology products that are highly precise, simple to use, and portable. 3D measurements as well as the Creaform 3D technologies are becoming an essential topic, and thus a growing number of worldwide higher education institutions have been using and teaching them since 2005. Since these institutions want to make sure they are keeping up to date with the latest technologies, they offer their research and teaching staff as well as their students the chance to train on and use this cutting edge equipment.
"How are educators harnessing the energy of the maker movement to inspire student exploration across multiple subjects? Discover resources and share advice."

Launched in 2005, the Arduino open hardware and software platform has grown to be very popular among hobbyists, educators, and professionals alike, gaining momentum especially in the robotics field. Backed by a massive online community, and with most development boards and hardware accessories available at very low prices, this platform is perhaps the best place to start in working with embedded devices. But what if you want to learn programming and do not own an Arduino board, or are overwhelmed by the selection of hardware out there? This is where simulation software comes in.

Music becomes tactile and textured in Brooklyn-based design studio REIFY’s 3D-printed sound sculptures. Using an unconventional array of printing materials—plastic, bronze, and even coconut husks—REIFY weaves country hits, classical concertos, and more into honeycombed geometries. When paired with REIFY’s augmented reality smartphone app, the sculptures come alive, singing their original soundwaves back to viewers.

Control your Raspberry Pi Pi 2, A+, or B+ with a flick of the wrist! The Pimoroni Skywriter HAT senses the position of your fingers in the air above. Using Pimoroni's Python API you can read off the positional data (x, y, z) and common gestures like flick left, tap, and double tap. Electrical near-field 3D/gesture sensing 4-layer PCB for best sensing performance Senses from up to 5cm away Full 3D position data and gesture information (swipes, taps) Comes fully assembled Full Python API This is only compatible with the Raspberry Pi Models Pi 2, A+, and B+!
I'm an English teacher and I'm building a Makerspace. Since October, I've been raising funds and working out deals to put in a Makerspace in our school library. I've been working with our Media Specialist to make this happen and I've had wonderful support from our admin staff. We are close to having a completed space and have chosen to call it the Blue Devil Maker's Lounge. I had a chance to take my Freshmen down to the space to show it off and share with the students what will be possible in the space. While a bit stressful, the Maker's Lounge has been a great project where I have learned many different things from friends across the country and right at home in Michigan. However, there has been some skepticism.
