HR Magazine - Morrisons data theft has 'broad' implications for staff | HR - Tracks | Scoop.it

A human resources lecturer has said the data breach at Morrisons could lead to staff having an adverse credit rating and even being refused mortgages.

The supermarket issued a release in which they claimed no member of staff would be financially disadvantaged by the breach. But Nuala OSullivan, senior lecturer at Westminster Business School, said she didn't believe this was an assertion Morrisons could confidently make.

Tell Your Whole Story in an Interview

Tell Your Whole Story in an Interview | HR - Tracks | Scoop.it
I start job interviews with the same question every time: “Tell me about your path leading up to today. Why is this role the right fit for you now?
James Schreier's insight:

I prefer posting the positive stories but occasionally something pops up that deserves criticism.  This is a very poor opening question for an interview -- UNLESS it's been made very clear to the candidate what the role is -- what the expectations are -- for the first 30 days, for the first six months, for the first year., etc.  And this is typically done very poorly in most organizations.

What's really interesting is that the author proves my point by giving the examples she usually gets -- bad questions get bad answers.

Want to Revolutionize Recruiting? Then Switch to the “3 Minute Hire”

Want to Revolutionize Recruiting? Then Switch to the “3 Minute Hire” | HR - Tracks | Scoop.it
Let’s look at how 95 percent of people are hired.
Besides a little variability, almost every person, at some point in their career, has been hired in this manner: Interview someone for an hour. If you like them, you make them an offer.
James Schreier's insight:

I almost like this article.  Because it's funny.  Because it's sarcasm!  Because there's some truth in the reality it presents.  But it ultimately scares me because too many managers and HR folks will "buy it" for the continued justification of poor hiring practices.  And ultimately it ignores the reality of a better way to do the one hour interview -- performance-based interviewing...
