October 2 – Manchester City should face the “appropriate consequences” if wrongdoing is established, a spokesperson for British Prime Minister Andy Burnham said on Thursday, clarifying earlier remarks from the PM. Burnham’s remarks came as club the formally appealed the independent commission’s verdict saying that the ruling contained “clear material errors, of law, principle and fact and is unsafe”. Still claiming that they are innocent of breaking the financial regulation, the club said it had filed “a comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence [that] exists in support of all of its positions”

September 30 – The Premier League has confirmed that Manchester City have been found guilty of more than 100 charges of breaches of Premier League financial rules between the 2009-10 and 2017-18 seasons. An independent Commission found that Manchester City arranged ‘sham’ contracts (which misrepresented the true agreement between the parties) with a number of its commercial partners, as well as relying on ‘sham’ agreements with others, to artificially inflate the club’s revenues and reduce its costs.

A Disciplinary Commission appointed pursuant to the Premier League (PL) Rules recently issued a bombshell decision in Section W proceedings brought by the PL against Manchester City Football Club Limited (City). City were found guilty of almost all of the charges. The wrongdoing that was found to have been established (applying the strong/cogent evidence test applicable for allegations of serious wrongdoing) was more serious, more sustained and had far larger financial implications than most could have imagined. A heavily redacted, and much abbreviated, Core Decision was released on 29 September 2026 (Core Decision), following an initial leak of the outcome, as reported on 25 September 2026.
