February 16 – Shilen Patel is set to become West Bromwich Albion chairman after a deal to purchase an 87.8% stake in the Championship club was agreed, to the delight of Albion fans.
The takeover by Bilkul Football WBA, owned by Florida-based Patel and his father Kiran Patel was approved by the English Football League on Thursday, with exchange and completion to take place next week.

February 14 – Premier League Brentford, currently in their third season in the top flight, have announced a record turnover of £166.5 million for the 2022/23 financial year, the club’s second in the Premier League.
The turnover is a £25.1 million increase on £140.9 million figure for 2021/22. But while the revenue has increased the profit before tax has decreased from £29.9 million to £9.2 million.
The reduction in profit is attributed to a £20 million increase in wages.

January 12 – Newcastle United have reported a loss after tax of £73.4 million for the 12 months ending 30 June 2023, on revenues of £250.3 million, an increase from £180 million the previous year.
The financial period covers a season when the club had a run to the EFL Cup final and finished fourth in the Premier League. Revenues from their participation in this season’s Champions League will be reported in next year’s accounts. Read more …

January 17 – A date has been set for European champions Manchester City’s hearing regarding 115 alleged rule breaches – but it’s being kept secret for the moment.
Last season’s Abu Dhabi-owned treble winners were charged almost a year ago for their alleged misdemeanours over nine seasons between 2009 and 2018 and were referred to an independent commission.
The Premier League’s chief executive Richard Masters told the Culture, Media and Sport (CMS) Committee of the UK Parliament: “There is a date set for that proceeding.

February 22 – Chelsea FC are the biggest money movers in world football, according to the latest data report from the CIES Football Observatory.
They sit top of the ranking, having ‘shuffled’ €2.57 billion in transfer fees in and out of the club in the last five seasons, recording a net spend of -€782 million in the process. This averages out at a net spend of €156 million in the red per season.

February 2 – Spending by Premier League clubs in January dipped significantly after three successive record-breaking windows – with teams splashing out £715 million less than in same 2023 period.
Purchases dropped sharply as increased enforcement of financial rules took hold and forced clubs to watch their pockets.
The total outlay in the past month across all five of Europe’s big five leagues was equally slashed, reaching €572 million according to figures from Deloitte.
