Do people tell you that you are just too sensitive? Maybe you are Empathic. Empaths feel what others are experiencing physically, emotionally, or mentally.
Yes, there are advantages to knowing what others are feeling, but you really don't want to feel that person's headache or know someone's pants are too tight! All these sensations can become overwhelming, yet empathy can be really useful. So, here are some ways to live as an Empath without getting beat up by your sensitivities.
The first step to dealing with empathic sensitivity is to know what is yours and what isn't. If you are not prone to headaches, yet all the sudden you have one, look around and see who nearby has a furrowed brow. You might not see the person because you by empathic with people who are near by as well with people you are strongly connected to. You can see why empathic people can feel a sensation without realizing it isn't theirs.
I've been studying the use of empathy in therapeutic sessions since 1981. Though I haven't a degree, I do have experience with writing white papers via my appointment to PA governor Shapp's Gay Task Force as the organiser of the Gay Youth Committee in 1975.

Have you ever wondered why people who are strangers or people you hardly know open up to you and share their most trusted thoughts?
Do you have an instant connection with animals? Are you unable to watch violence, cruelty, or tragedy on television or in the movies because your soul just can’t bear it? Do you have an instant knowing about the character of the people you meet upon first meeting them? Are you highly spiritual and find the physical world and everything in it heavy?
Are you often tired and have physical ailments that cannot be medically explained? If you answered, “yes” to any of these questions you may be an “empath.
Empaths are people who are highly sensitive to the energy and the emotions of the people, animals, and sometimes even the spiritual imprints that exist around them.

Recently, a friend of mine who is a psychologist shared with me during a conversation about career counseling that she has the ability to sense the emotions of others. At first, I thought she was talking about the construct of empathy, an ability most helping professionals seem to (or at least should) possess. As our conversation continued however, it became clear to me that she was talking about something completely different.
Specifically, she identified herself as an empath.
In spirit science perspective, the reason that you are an empath is because you are tuned into the universal consciousness more than other people.
You are so dialed in to the oneness factor that connects us all that you are feeling someone else’s pain which really means you are projecting and reflecting your own experiences into the situation which makes you empathic to begin with.
You are the universe itself experiencing itself through a fractalized visual mass.
Empaths are more in tune with everything in life, more connected to human emotion, love all animals, prefer nature over buildings. Empaths trust their gut intuition, and ask for more spiritual guidance.
More connected, and more in tune can make one more prone to psychological, and physical illnesses from absorbing all of the energy around you.I was once told by one of my instructors that I should visualize a suit of armor protecting me from the outside sources. At times I do embrace this technique if I'm becoming over anxious or melancholy. I prefer to embrace my empath abilities as it increases my spiritual intuition.

Do you often wonder which emotions are yours, and which belong to someone else? When people you care about are hurting, do you feel their pain so deeply that it’s hard to separate—even after they’re out of crisis mode?
In relationships, do you donate so much of your own natural resources that you suffer from a chronic energy shortage? And with those you’re close to, is it hard to figure out what your own needs are—or even what you want for dinner? If the answer is yes, it’s highly likely that you’re an empath.
What does it mean to be an empath, and why is it fraught with these basic life challenges?

We feel more than we think. This is a blessing and a curse. It allows us to understand people and see things others don’t. However, when we remove the shield we become vulnerable and in this vulnerability we can be hurt.
I’ve battled my bleeding heart for my entire life. I don’t want to anymore. I love that I can touch my emotions, delve into them, experience them and move forward. I can sense other people’s emotions too, as if they were my own.
Slowly, I am learning how to keep myself
protected while I remain exposed and empathetic, without being untrusting and guarded.
In crowded or stressful places, with a lot of noise, an empath can find themselves feeling confused and anxious due to the sheer barrage of angry and negative “white noise” – a storm of jumbled and distressing non verbal emotional information which they will unconsciously try and process.
In the worst case scenario, empaths can become angst-absorbing sponges, totally overwhelmed by other people’s feelings. And they won’t know why.
These are just a few common experiences of Empaths. I attended a class about how to thrive as an Empath at the Florida School of Holistic Living a few weeks ago
. At the beginning of the class I didn’t know what an Empath was. As we went through the content, things started to click for me. Memories of crying all the time as a child/adult. Feeling responsible for the feelings of those around me. Having strong physical reactions to people, situations or places.
Becoming numb when I experienced emotional/sensory overload. Writing countless blogs about my emotions and how to control/cope with them…so this new realization of what is called an empath is so refreshing to know. NOTHING IS WRONG WITH ME?!! I always knew it but to have a name for it….. brought me a sigh of relief.
Most of these traits I can tick for myself. I never knew that stomach issues could be because of being an empath! That explains a lot to me. Are you an empath?
The kind of questions that may of gone through your mind:
- Why do I feel this way while others seem to be able to brush off the things that cut me like a knife? - Why am I not able to switch off all this chaos?
Being an empath can be physically and emotionally draining. Many people are unaware that they’re an empath and do not know how to cope with this ability.
Firstly, you should start to develop your “Shield Body”, this is your protection bubble around your physical body (everyone and everything is energy and what you think you create).
There is a layer of your aura that is devoted to your interface with your environment. Its shape and condition indicate your relationship to your world. People who are empaths often have a “thin skin” in relation to their shield body. When it has holes in it, we are more easily influenced by our environment.

Empathic illnesses are those in which you manifest symptoms that are not your own.
Empathic Illnesses: Do You Absorb Other People’s Symptoms?
Empathic illnesses are those in which you manifest symptoms that are not your own. Many patients have come to me labeled “agoraphobic” with panic disorders, chronic depression, fatigue, pain, or mysterious ailments that respond only partially to medications or psychotherapy. Some were nearly housebound or ill for years. They’d all say, “I dread being in crowds.
Other people’s anger, stress, and pain drain me, and I need a lot of alone time to refuel my energy.” When I took a close history of all these patients I found that they were what I call “physical empaths:” people whose bodies are so porous they absorb the symptoms of others. I relate because I am one.
Physical empaths do not have the defenses that others have to screen things out.
As a psychiatrist, knowing this significantly changed how I treated these patients. My job became teaching them to center and protect themselves, set healthy boundaries, and let go of energy they picked up from others.
I have learned how to recognise which are my feelings and which come from outside. Everyone has a unique signature or "hallmark". What I term "layover" emotions ("layover" in the sense used in medical texts when transparent sheets are used to show the layering of muscles, organs, etc.) are now easy for me to recognise.Ihave also developed a method to teach other physical and emotional empaths the vital skills it took me decades to learn on my own. I will freely share. Send a friend request via Google plus to Lakewolf Whitecrow & I'll add you to my lists. In the meantime, I'l begin to work on writing this all down. No sense in spending vital time to develop tools I've already developed---and taught.
I have waited for this for DECADES! I was going to write a book on affection as therapy, but sharing it here is so much easier.I don't need credit or citations; it's such a profound sense of relief that I finally have the opportunity to share this. As I'm on SSD, sometimes I'm not doing very well, but I'm never doing better than when I'm helping someone else. May God bless you for giving me this opportunity!
Do you sometimes feel sad without really knowing why? Find out whether you are highly empathic and learn how to avoid absorbing the negativity of others.
MY JOURNEY IN FINDING OUT
It wasn’t until recently, when I read an article about ‘30 traits of an empath‘ that I discovered I was not alone in feeling the way I felt at times but that there is a category of humans defined as empaths (my spell check doesn’t even recognize this word).
I am not a fan of labels but learning about some traits and finding out what it meant and feels like to be an empath, has been calming, reassuring and healing. The danger with not being aware of the fact that you are an empath, is to end up with the belief that negative feelings absorbed from others are your own ones.
Do you frequently experience the intense emotions of other, particularly in public settings? Do you find that at times these feelings are intrusive?
Do you struggle with trying to push these emotions away, causing you to become drained and depleted?
Are you able to feel the physical distress of other living creatures, like aches and pains? When a major global event happens that involves significant loss of life, are you able to sense the enormity of the tragedy before it hits the news?
Imagine being able to feel and sense everything, whether positive or negative around you, 24/7.
An Empath can’t turn off empathy (unlike someone who is perhaps ‘empathising’). It is possibly one of the most challenging of psychic gifts to master.
I am an Empath who has spent nearly two decades, since awakening, mastering my empathic nature
It is an ongoing process. I am still not perfect and not sure that I ever will be whilst incarnated here. I am however content, despite the challenges of integration, as I see it as an incredible gift to humanity…
Many empathic people use protection exercises and have a lot of different ways to do this, if this works for you and you are comfortable doing so then by all means carry on doing this.
But there is an important point to make regarding protection exercises such as the white bubble (surrounding yourself in a white bubble), and all other ones, that if you continually use protection exercises how are you going to feel any energies (good or bad) from others, your environment, and the world, and how are others going to feel your energy?
Am I an empath? This is a questions that many people ask themselves.
I’m an Empath but I didn’t always know that I was. I just knew that I felt emotions on a very deep level and I knew things about people that they hadn’t told me. When I finally found some research on this topic I realized that I was an empath (this was also confirmed to me by a psychic healer).
Sometimes people call us “highly sensitive people”, but I prefer the word empath. If you are very sensitive you may have asked yourself “Am I an empath?“.
I will be exploring the topic of weight gain in much more detail in my “Empowering Empathic Abilities” online class, but I wanted to send this out for any of you empaths out there who struggle with your weight and feel guilty because of it. Don’t.
Carrying extra weight does not make you any less spiritual or less valuable than anyone else on the planet. Learn to love and accept yourself. Thank your body for how it protects and takes care of you. I promise it will do wonders in your overall health and sense of well-being!
An empath is someone who feels the emotions of others, in addition to their own. It sounds fictitious and it certainly began that way. Empath was a Marvel Comics character in the 1980s – a mutant who could sense and manipulate others’ emotions. However, people are increasingly identifying as empaths.
Feeling empathy is an integral part of human nature, although it is not ubiquitous. We have a name for people without empathy – psychopaths or sociopaths – of which approximately 1% of the population is composed. If we can conceive of a lack of empathy, why is the idea of someone who feels extreme empathy rejected? I suppose it is a reflection of society’s focus on the negative.

This is a brief overview to help sensitive empaths understand more of how things are working here for us, how we contribute and how the contributions of others helps us immensely.
