En los últimos años han aumentado los estudios relacionados con la motivación turística y los que ponen ésta en relación con la satisfacción de los visitantes y la lealtad al producto o destino. No obstante, el estudio de la motivación, como variable que influye en la decisión anterior de realizar un viaje, se perfila como un campo de investigación que precisa de un análisis más profundo.

El objetivo principal de este trabajo es conocer qué relaciones se dan entre la motivación y satisfacción de una muestra de turistas que han visitado Madrid y sus características sociodemográficas (edad, género y nacionalidad), lo que constituye una primera aproximación para explicar la toma de decisiones a través de atributos personales y segmentar posteriormente con métodos estadísticos más específicos y factores que relaciones dichas variables motivación y satisfacción turística.

Para tal fin se ha aplicado un cuestionario a 353 turistas, que incluye una escalada de motivación y una de satisfacción. Los datos obtenidos fueron analizados mediante un análisis de la varianza de un factor (ANOVA). Los resultados obtenidos muestran relaciones entre las variables analizadas tal y como diversos estudios han demostrado en otras muestras y destinos.
