This year’s conference seeks to share information and promote networking opportunities among students, professionals, and educators; the theme is developing skills and seeking career opportunities in the digital age.
-Keynotes (5:30 to 6:30 p.m. SLT):
· Dr. Jeremy Kemp and Julie Whitehead, San Jose State University School of Library and Information Science will report on their work-in-progress gathering video walkthroughs of exemplary young adult library spaces from across the US and Canada and recreating them in Second Life for further study as part of a larger three-year grant project funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for $335,000 (Dr. Anthony Bernier, PI).
· Fred Stielow, Ph.D., M.L.S., Corporate Vice President and Dean of Libraries at the American Public University System, will provide ideas for Rewiring Librarians for the Web.
· CD Woods, MLIS student, will explain the Value of Student Associations in Career Preparation.
-Poster Presentations (6:30 to 7:30 p.m. SLT)
Examples include:
· Building Your Technology Toolkit to Showcase Your Records and Yourself, Amy Herring, MLIS Student & VCARA Research Assistant.
· Targeting the Archives Profession: an analysis of the archives career hunt, Kyle Conner, MSI, CA.
· Undertaking real work via an unreal world, Frederick Stokes-Thompson, Career Advisor, and a team of students from the University of South Australia.
· Job Searching Tips and Techniques in 2012, Vicky Brennan, MLIS student.
· Virtual World Library Exhibits: 3D Simulations for Interactive Content Delivery, Valerie Hill, Texas Woman’s University, Lewisville ISD.
· Exploring and developing career opportunities in the Digital Age, Kate Tasker, SJSU/SLIS MLIS Candidate 2012, Media Archive Intern at the San Francisco Exploratorium.
-On your own 7:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. SLT and beyond:
· Return to any poster presentations of interest to speak with the authors.
· Presentations will remain over the summer.Anyone wishing to view the presentations after the conference will be able to listen to podcasts synchronized with slides.
