"Most voters support vaccine access, no matter where they fall on the political spectrum. They want to maintain access to safe vaccines approved by the Food and Drug Administration, and they trust their doctors’ recommendations for when and how to receive them. Unfortunately, some politicians are determined to weaken or do away with an important safeguard that most Americans have never heard of but has worked for decades: the Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP). ... Congress created the VICP to compensate people harmed by vaccines — without the delay and expense of civil court. That expense was crippling in the days before the VICP. An analysis examining litigation targeting the diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis vaccine (DTP) found that “from 1978 to 1984, the average amount claimed per suit has risen from $10 million to $46.5 million.” Those amounts padded the pockets of attorneys and were inevitably passed down to patients in the form of higher health care costs. In civil court, trial lawyers routinely take a third or more of an award off the top before their clients see a dollar.
In contrast, the VICP provides for reasonable attorney costs, separate from the award that goes to successful claimants. For example, in the recent VICP case Mitchell v. Secretary of Health and Human Services, the petitioner was awarded more than $310,000 for a vaccine-induced blood disorder characterized by unusually low platelet levels. Attorneys’ fees and costs were paid separately by the vaccine program. These expenses were not contingent on the claimant’s compensation, diminishing the incentive to pursue extravagant awards. ... Eliminating the VICP would redirect vaccine injury claims back into state court systems, resulting in nearly 1,000 new lawsuits annually, according to estimates by the nonprofit Taxpayers Protection Alliance. Manufacturers would be exposed to increased tort liability and soaring defense litigation costs. If passed along to patients, those costs could add nearly $6 to the price of each vaccine dose. That would mean higher premiums and co-pays as well as reduced access to vaccines nationwide. Higher per-dose procurement costs would directly impact federal and state budgets through public health purchasing programs such as Vaccines for Children, driving up government spending."

"US vaccine recommendations are in limbo, access to vaccines is suffering, and some of the uncertainty may continue for years following major blows to vaccination by the Trump administration, experts say. Robert F Kennedy Jr, the secretary of the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), has made sweeping changes to vaccination policy, cutting childhood immunization recommendations by a third and replacing experts on the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) with his own handpicked allies. A judge’s order halted these changes because they were not done correctly, but Kennedy has not nominated any new ACIP members – which means there are no new vaccination recommendations coming from the committee, even as new vaccines are approved.
Ron Kroening, 63, has asthma and bad allergies this time of year, so his doctor recommended the new Moderna mRNA flu vaccine, approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in August for ages 50 and up. Trials suggest it provides even stronger protection than traditional flu shots. It took time to locate the one pharmacy in his area that stocked the shot – and then Kroening was shocked to be charged a $40 co-pay. “I figured that was an error because I’ve never had to pay for a flu shot in my life,” he said. But his insurance company told him it’s because there’s no recommendation from the ACIP, Kroening said: “The reason the mRNA isn’t covered is because it’s not listed as an ACIP vaccine.” If the ACIP doesn’t recommend the new shot by the end of the year – a scenario experts say is likely – insurers won’t be required to cover it until January 2029 at the earliest. “This is really a barrier. And any barrier to immunizations is going to keep people from getting them,” said Kroening, a retired public health employee who worked on immunizations at the state level in Oklahoma. “A $40 co-pay is going to turn people off,” he added, noting that his pharmacist also didn’t inform him that there were other flu shot options. Insurers usually have at least a year after FDA approval to add coverage of a new vaccine to their plans, so a co-pay like Kroening’s isn’t unusual in the first year or so. But the difference now is it’s not clear when the vaccine will be fully covered. ...
“The legal requirement doesn’t go into effect very quickly. The process takes time,” said Lindsay Wiley, professor of law and faculty director of the Health Law and Policy Program at UCLA Law. For the new flu shot, “it seems likely that at best we would get a recommendation next year,” Wiley said, “but there’s no reason to think” they will do so. “It’s just delaying more and more and more,” she said."

Looking at the studies anti-vaccine activists claim show vaccines cause autism, and at the body of literature against it:
"Out of a combined 247 studies that anti-vaccers cite as evidence of vaccines causing autism, an astounding 126 (51%) aren’t even about vaccines! Another 49 aren’t about autism. ... Also, seven of the papers have been retracted or withdrawn due to serious issues with them.
In short, these lists are full of totally irrelevant papers, thus clearly demonstrating that they were not carefully constructed by people who were systematically examining the evidence but were, instead, thrown together with little to no quality control and are intended to stoke fear rather than to educate. Many of the papers in these lists are of low quality, while others are fine papers; they just have nothing to do with vaccines.
After filtering out all this nonsense, there are only 13 papers that haven’t been retracted, are relevant to the current schedule, and present actual human research proposing a link between vaccines and autism. However, not a single one of those papers is a large, robust study that can establish causation. ...
In contrast to the anti-vaccer lists, the body of literature showing that vaccines do not cause autism contains many large studies using powerful designs, the largest of which is a cohort study with over 2.5 million children (Burstain et al. 2026)! This sample size provides enormous power, and the lack of association between vaccines and autism in this study is very strong evidence. Several other large and very powerful cohort studies have similarly failed to find a link (Hviid et al. 2019 [657,461 children]; Madsen et al. 2002 [440,654 children]; Andrews et al. 2004 [109,863 children]; and Jain et al. 2015 [95,727 children]).
There have also been multiple large case-control studies that found no evidence of vaccines being associated with autism. (DeStefano et al. 2004 [642 people with autism; 1824 people without autism]; Smeeth et al. 2004 [991 with; 4469 without]; DeStefano et al. 2013 [256 with; 752 without]; Uno et al. 2015 [189 with, 224 without]). Case-control studies start with two groups (one with and one without the effect of interest [in this case autism]) then work backwards to test a potential cause. This design does not allow them to assign causation, but they are a very powerful tool for detecting associations, and a lack of association is good evidence of a lack of causation (more details here)."

Vaccines protect millions of children around the world from polio every year.
But in conflicts, fragile contexts and the hardest-to-reach areas, children risk missing out on essential health services.
To prevent future polio outbreaks, governments and partners must continue to invest in life-saving immunization services and strong health systems.

🚨BREAKING: Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has reinstated Brigadier General Melissa Cunningham, who was forced out of the Air Force for refusing the COVID-19 vaccine under the Biden administration. Cunningham was forced to retire in August 2022 after declining the then-mandatory COVID-19 vaccination.
Hegseth swore her back in during a ceremony at the Pentagon on October 23. He welcomed her return and noted the stance she had taken.
Cunningham is a 26-year veteran and was the highest-ranking Air Force officer forced out over the mandate. Her reinstatement includes restoration of her brigadier general rank, full back pay, credit for missed service time, and record corrections. Between 8,000 and 8,700 service me
bers were involuntarily discharged or separated for refusing the vaccine between August 2021 and January 2023. The mandate was later rescinded.
President Trump signed an executive order in January 2025 directing the reinstatement of members discharged solely for refusing the vaccine. Approximately 230 have returned to active duty so far.
Cunningham expressed gratitude to God, the president, and Hegseth for working to reinstate her and other similarly discharged service members. She encouraged others who had not yet applied to pursue reinstatement.
Pete Hegseth just swore Brigadier General Melissa Cunningham back into the Air Force after she was forced out for refusing the COVID shot. She gets her rank and back pay restored. Thousands of service members were removed the same way. | 27 comments on LinkedIn

🔍 We often focus on immunization coverage, yet we know little about why people get vaccinated or not. 🤷♂️ For answers, check out the preliminary findings from the newly established 🇩🇪 German Integrated Vaccination Acceptance Monitoring at the Robert Koch Institute, now available in English.
What have we learned so far?
In Germany... ➡️ parents show high overall acceptance of vaccination ➡️ most parents consider access to vaccination to be easy, while practical challenges remain (e.g., lack of reminder systems) ➡️ vaccine myths are widespread ➡️ many people overestimate the frequency of vaccine side effects ➡️ many people for whom influenza vaccination is recommended are unaware that they belong to a vulnerable group
The monitoring is based on a sample of ~5,000 individuals from the Robert Koch Institute's "Health in Germany" nationally representative cohort and the World Health Organization's Behavioural and Social Drivers of Vaccination (BeSD) concept, among others.
Download the results here: 📁 General population https://lnkd.in/djZg-YKT 📁 Parents of children under 7 years https://lnkd.in/d_tzaY6d 📁 Individuals for whom influenza vaccination is recommended https://lnkd.in/dS82kqm3

If Your Vaccine Strategy Only Answers Today’s Questions, It’s Already Behind.
Vaccines don’t stand still.
Epidemiology changes. Recommendations change. Technology changes. And stakeholder questions change with them.
Medical strategy has to move before the questions do.
Pneumococcal vaccination is a good example.
As vaccine coverage changes circulating serotypes, the next questions are already emerging:
Which serotypes will continue to drive disease? Will serotype replacement change the burden? And how should future higher-valency vaccines balance broader coverage with epidemiologic relevance?
Influenza creates a different challenge.
The next season is being planned before the current one is finished.
Which strains are likely to dominate? How well will strain selection match circulating viruses? And can newer technologies improve breadth, speed, or immune response?
RSV is evolving quickly too.
The conversation is already moving beyond initial efficacy:
How durable is protection? Which older adults benefit most? Will revaccination be needed? And what will real-world effectiveness look like across different risk groups?
The easy approach is to wait until these questions become urgent.
The better approach is to anticipate them.
When building an evidence plan, Medical Affairs shouldn’t only ask: “What question are we answering?”
It should also ask: “What will stakeholders ask after we answer it?”
That second question matters.
Because it should influence evidence generation, scientific communication, lifecycle planning, and Field Medical readiness before the need becomes urgent.
Field Medical has an especially important role here.
The questions that begin appearing repeatedly in scientific exchange can be an early signal of where the evidence gaps, stakeholder concerns, and future strategy are heading.
Those signals should not simply be documented.
They should help shape what comes next.
🎯 TAKEAWAY: Strong vaccine strategy is not just about answering today’s evidence questions. It is about anticipating tomorrow’s.
💬 QUESTION: Which emerging vaccine question do you think Medical Affairs teams should be preparing for now rather than waiting to address later?

| 44 comments on LinkedIn

As populations live longer, vaccination has an increasingly important role to play in healthy aging.
Older adults face greater risks from influenza, pneumococcal pneumonia, RSV, and shingles, yet uptake of available vaccines can remain below recommended levels.
Researchers are also investigating whether some vaccines may be associated with a lower risk of dementia. That research is still developing, but it illustrates how the role of vaccination could continue to expand across the life course.
